I had to leave my last job due to the fact that my last boss sent me home crying every day he was so mean, and that was in JULY (!) I'm still looking for a job... the job market sucks these days...

Oh, salukigirl, i'm sorry. That does sound rough, especially around Spring break, etc.

Can you at least get unemployment benefits for the time you're off?

But I agree being unemployed sucks. I've been job hunting since last Sept.

brian - dont assume anything about me. i have applied at burger king and sonic etc... so dont tell me there are jobs here because i have applied to them all:

burger king
blockbuster
sonic
quizno's
subway (2 of them)
advance auto parts
walgreens
dominos
pizza hut
applebee's
steak n' shake
bob evans
mcallister's

plus tons of things online. so please don't assume im too prissy to work in food. i have worked in pizza for 5 years and also worked at the olive garden and steak n' shake.

i dont think i could set up unemployment within the next 3 weeks. plus im a full time student and i dont know how that effects it.

my boss said that it should only be a few weeks before they get the funding straightened out so they can have people back for work. i talked to another worker there and he said that it happened to him right when he started and it only lasted a couple weeks.

im not trying to pull your chain salukigirl.....I just know from owning a small business that in a recent NFIB national poll .....89% of small businesses had openings due to a nationwide shortage of people willing to work.....

marion has about 16,000 people. carbondale, about 23,000. every other city has like 1,000 or less. so there isn't much opportunity. and when people do find a job, they dont leave it. the only time there are job openings is right before school starts because kids come back and they get very busy. and some during summer when their student workers go home. but for the most part its barren. we had to wait 3 weeks before we found jobs down here. and the only reason i found one was cause ive worked at papa johns for over 2 years and they didn't even have a spot for me but didn't want an experienced manager to not be hired. same thing with my boyfriend at wendy's. the local economy is dying.

not to mention wal-mart is shutting down so many mom and pop places that people are losing jobs. sure, wal-mart gives some people jobs. but then families are losing their entire businesses. a factory that makes tractor parts for farm equipment around here has laid off, i think, around 40 people so far. its one of those places where the town survives off the business... and now thats business is going out of business. it really is pitiful down here.
