Yay! so i got this internship is upstate new york over the summer. its paid (housing isnt included though).

its in the biggest hot spot for lyme disease in the entire united states, just outside the catskills. there is a population of white footed mice (like the kind you find in your house) which are the main carriers for lyme disease (only this certain species so dont freak out lol). and there is a direct correlation between the population of these mice and the number of lyme disease cases the following year. so were going to be trapping them, putting them in new areas, collecting ticks to see if they have lyme disease and identifying other small mammals in the area.

im so excited! wooooo!

That sounds fascinating. Can't you just take the blood from mice and see if they're infected with the bacterium? I wouldn't be playing with possibly infected ticks! They're only the size of pinheads at that stage aren't they?

yeah, only 2 people since 1995 have gotten lyme diease in this group. they do mandatory tick checks everyday. and the tick has to be on you for 24 hours before you can get it. the doctors there are well equipped to dealing with it. you know... im not sure why we dont just check the mice..im sure there is a reason though.

thanks guys I got an internship! i pretty excited. i leave right after finals so its sneaking up on me. feels weird that i only have 3 more weeks of classes then a week of finals. ahhhh!

and i had given up hope on making the deans list this semester which would be my first semester not making it. i got a D on my first math exam (eeeep). and i thougt i did just as bad this time but i got a B. so as long as i dont miss any class, and get an A on this next test I might still be able to pull off the dean's list again. im scared! lol (yes i know im too hard on myself). deans list for the college of science here is a 3.75. geesh. wearing me out!
