We have reservations at an offtrack betting restaurant here in Maryland for today and the Preakness in a couple weeks. But I'm going to do some betting online before I go; even the offtrack places are crowded! :-)

It so sad that the horse was injured and had to be put down.

Kentucky Derby . When I lived in Florida ,,>> Went to Tampa Downs ..>> all ways in the padcock walk . ,,Bad spell,,.

But it was ,, when horses didn' t have that . Less that strong place from stem to stern ,...

I just feel for the Horse ,
\
But shave some seconds and stop breeding for git around the 4 th turn and to the finish ,, when they may have 7 + furlongs with speed to seconds ??

Kentucky Derby Sorry . Kentucky Derby .

If None the Less ,,>>>> We Do have a care PLACE .
Kentucky Derby Frucks though ans shucks too !!!!!

My husband misses the Kentucky Derby since we are in Florida..... as his parents use to own and race their horses at the Derby when my husband and his siblings still lived at home - they spent a lot of family time at the Old Kentucky Derby.

My husband and I are both originally from Kentucky - born and raised as kids..... then moved to Florida by parents. "phooie"

It always breaks my heart! The horses are trained and raced when they are way too young and bones are not completely matured and strong enough. It's all big money, showing off, etc. The rich and the powerful. We have a Quarter horse training facility near us where the horses are abused, etc. World class reining horses come out of there, and are perfectly behaved because they are afraid not to. The owners are wealthy and never see what the animals go through. Just see the shows!! This guy starts them out tied to the round pen in two feet of mud, and they stand all day like this til they stand still. That's how he teaches the two or three year olds to tie, because he wants instant results! It's all for money!!!

I love the Kentucky Derby. I go every year.

Sad about Eight Belles true...but it happens in horse racing. It even happens to horses just walking around their barns or running in fields. Opening the stud book may help, but changing the breed could cause more problems than it solves.
