I know of someone who used small pots of African violets at each table. They are relatively inexpensive, lovely and fresh, and can be taken home by guests.

A great potted herb would be lavender, though they might run a bit more expensive than the violets.

If it's soon... there are gladioulus in bloom... white stalks in a tall slender vase will be stunning, and won't block much view. Tie with a blue bow.

At one brother's wedding we purchased hanging baskets at a local garden store, took off the hangers (save the hangers), set them in the middle of the table and put votive candles around them. It turned out beautifully and at the end of the reception each important person in the bride and groom's life took home a beautiful hanging basket too.

Call your local store, garden, home depot, walmart, etc, tell them what you plan and ask them to set aside the prettiest baskets when they are delivered to their store. Usually they are happy to do it, and some will throw in a discount too any ideas for creative wedding center pieces???

It's so refreshing to read of someone wanting to have an inexpensive wedding! Too much emphasis has been placed on the mega weddings these days, which is actually a big money-making machine! Good for this couple, wanting to bypass this!
My daughter and her husband made their own invitations, printing them themselves. They planned the whole wedding, which was at a cigar bar next to Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. I had misgivings about it, but it was lovely and fun!
Patty
Oh, and their invitations were just as funky and unconventional as the wedding!

well as far as the tables, sprinkling rose petels allover creates the idea of "more", so if the petels are scattered, than the centerpiece doesnt have to be so extravagant. What we had for our centerpieces a year ago was a glass vase type thing with a candle in the middle and a glass square underneith it.

I have an idea for the cake if they want the beautiful traditional cake. Build it completely out of Styrofoam. Frost and decorate. Then, for cake to eat, make sheet cakes or layer cakes; which is much better in my opinion, I’ve never tasted a wedding cake I liked.

my son and his wife had low profile bowls with floating candles in them for center pieces with mirrors underneath. I think they also put some flowers (silks) scattered around them too. as for the cake. if you have a super walmart near I would get the cake there. not expensive and very good! I ended up with mine for free! they forgot to order my topper so I got my cake and any topper they had and didn't cost a thing any ideas for creative wedding center pieces???

some tips:

if you get cake from wal-mart or sam's club......get whipped icing. so yummy! and yes theyre alot cheaper and more enjoyable than really fancy cakes.

u can print your own wedding invitations at fedex kinkos for very little money and theyre pretty.....or on someones PC.

Saplings.....

Go to a nursery and buy some flats of assorted tree saplings..

Decorate them to choice,,maybe some candy hershey kisses ,,or some nicoret gum for any smokers....LOL

Hang a tag on the tree with a number on it from one to ten...

Each person at the table guesses a number...the winner is...

The person who wins will plant the tree in honor of the wedding and we will all get to breath a little easier...

I think celebrations of all types should look at our ecology as a theme...

IMHO.

What about a theme surrounding the night sky? Dark blue with white "stars" - you could have bunches of dark blue roses or flowers with a few smaller "stars" white flowers interspersed.

and a cake something like this:
any ideas for creative wedding center pieces???

Only with simple white stars on it and a background of navy blue instead. And you could try to find a "moon" that would stick in the top of the cake and be over the couples head(what do you call those things again?)

I can picture this all so well in my head but can't find a picture of it. I'll keep looking and try to be more detailed.
