we rode bicycles without helmets and survived

television sets had two big knobs, one for UHF, one for VHF

there were full service gas stations and leaded gasoline

you had to push a button on the floorboard of your car to switch to high beams

we listened to music on turntables with vinyl albums

the local movie theater had ONE screen

everyone tuned in to watch "Roots"...the first miniseries

Coke and Pepsi came in 16 oz. glass bottles that you had to pop the top off

feel free to add to the list .....................

You had to plan ahead how much money you'd need for the weekend and take it out before the bank closed on Friday becasue there weren't ATM machines everywhere.

your printer used to go "screech screech"

the text on your screen was all green

we listened to cassette tapes or (gasp!) even the 8 track

you had to write out a check and drop every bill payment in the mail with a $.25 cent postage stamp

a gallon of gas was $3 or (oh my!) even $2!

a hoe was a tool you used in your garden

gas was $0.49 a gallon and rationed?

minimum wage was less than $2 an hour

you could buy a brand new car off the lot for $2995

a carton of cigarettes was less than $10

the milk man came to the door 2 mornings a week to see what dairy products you needed

all the kids in the neighborhood had the run of all the yards in the neighborhood till dark, and if your mom wanted you she opened the front door and yelled your name?

there was only 1 tv in the house and it got 3 channels

telephones had party lines

Roller skates had a key that we wore on a string around our neck.

I remember all the above and I remember farther back than "a gallon of gas was $3 or (oh my!) even $2!"

I remember back when both a pack of cigarettes and a gallon of gas were 25 cents! ... and typewriter keyboards still had the cent sign. remember when......... remember when.........

I remember going to the store to buy cigarettes for my mom when they were $.35. When they hit $.50 she said "no one will pay that much for cigarettes!"

I think what I miss the most is drive ins. My brother and I fighting over laying in the back window because that was the premo spot. For about $5 you all got into the movie, got popcorn, soda, a HUGE lollipop and a hotdog.
