Are any of you watching this? I am and am finding it interesting. Of course I love Batman and am looking forward to Friday to the Dark Knight. I already have my ticket to go see it. I bought it today so I could go see it. I guess I never thought of the psychology of Batman.

I have followed the comic for many years. The one thing I have really liked about Batman Begins and The Dark Knight is that the filmmakers actually get the comic book and try to honor the work.

The main thing to remember is that Batman is really two people in one body, Bruce Wayne and Batman are very seperate personalities fighting for control and domination. Batman is a tortured, tragic, anti-hero, haunted by the events of Wayne's childhood (his parent's murder) and driven by dark obsession.

What I find interesting is that Batman is very suited to the environment of Gotham city a very dark and gritty place (Gotham is DC comic's version of New York) Superman by contrasts is more suited to Metropolis, a lighter, kinder place with more midwestern values( Metropolis is DC Comics answer to Chicago)

In crossover and Justice league books the two men are often at odds, Superman, is the crowd pleaser, the traditonal hero, who works in the public eye. Batman by contrast is a feared outcast and vigilante that works in the shadows. In Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" Batman and Superman's tensions come to a head and the two battle each other.

The movie should be very good, it is rumored that Heath Ledger is already a shoe-in to get a posthumous Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for his last role as the joker. Enjoy the film

I did watch that last night Jbug!! It was really interesting, Batman was always one of my favorite superhero because he has no superpowers he uses his mind.
They made some really interesting points on the specail.
My favorite thing the brought up is the relationship between the Joker and Batman, I never thought of it as a philosphical fight, but I see it now.

I'm jealous that you get to see the Dark Night!! I was supposed to got this saturday but I got scheduled to work The History Channel and the Psychology of Batman.

I hope you enjoy the movie hun, and let us all know how awesome it is!!

batmans superpower is that he is an industrialist billionaire. nice work for a misanthrope.
there are midnight showings of the darknight in my neighborhood. i may go out to see it if i am not too tired. the new york times gives the movie a very passable review for a 100 million dollar action flick.
i can certainly think of better ways for a multinational corporation to spend a 100 million dollars. Bringing potable water to subsaharan africa comes quickly to mind. but i will prolly be suckered into a matinee on saturday when the heat index is over 100 degrees and i can use the a/c cause i know the power company will cut the current back and my home air conditioners won't work right.
