<font color="purple">So I went to the pet store a few days ago, looking at the pets, I couldnt help but be enthralled by the little mice. You see, there were two mice running on the excercise whell, one would run faster then the other, so of course, the other mouse had to take a little trip upside down on the wheel. I felt a little sorry for the little mouse (it had to be scared!) but it was cute and funny too. For awhile, Ive been missing a furry companion (my mom has two cats, but its not the same because unless its during a vacation then Im not with them often) so I been wanting something like a mouse or gerbil or hamster. I had a guinea pig, but he grew too big and I was terrified of picking him up which made doing things like cleaning his cage difficult. I think with something like a hamster or gerbil or mouse though would be different because they are tiny!

So, leaving the pet store all excited, I went over to my mom who was waiting on a bench (were in the mall, you see) so I dragged her to see the pets (she was a bit reluctant though lol) and told her that if I had a mouse, Id want a white one and name him Charlie. She says I read Flowers for Algernon too much. (Well, it is my favorite book) I asked her how many times was too much, and she says it's too much when you want to have a white mouse and name it Charlie, I told her that I would name him algernon, but decided that was too big of a reference. I'd ask my dad if I could have a mouse...but I'm sure he'd say no, and it's not like I can just buy everything and just show up, 'cause then he'd be really mad (Well...there's always my college days...)

<font color="purple">Hehe, I was talking to my dad, and it went something like this:

Me: Well, I know you're going to say no, but I thought I might as well ask...
Dad: Yeah?
Me: Well...I was thinking...can I have a pet... ... mouse?
Dad: *looks at me funny* A mouse?
Me: Or a hamster! Or a gerbil!
Dad: I dunno. Maybe. Maybe a Hamster or a gerbil, but definately not a mouse.

Pet mouse Pet mouse
Yay! A maybe!

(I like Gerbils and Hamsters just as much as mice by the way...)
...I don't know if they sell Gerbils though, I've always liked them the most out of the three, they have such cute fuzzy tails, a mouse tail isn't as cute, and hamsters have a stub tail...if any. (and to me, the tail is the only difference between the three of them lol) if I get this new pet though, were would I keep him/her? I'm afraid the spaces between the bars would be too big for them to escape, but at the same time, I don't know how I would hook up there little drinking bottle to the side of one of those gass cases either Pet mouse

Hi Kaika! Those pictures are sooo cute I understand that you want one of them as a pet. I had hamsters when i was a child and kept them in a bird cage. They were great. Hope that you will be able to get one.

Oh wow, I don't think I've seen a gerbil before - though I've defiantly heard of them! They are pretty cute :-)

When I was little I used to have a couple of mice. Important to make sure they have been sexed properly (as I'm sure you know). The females smell a whole heap less than the males. Think the boy mice release some kind of stinky hormone...

They are quite fun to play with. Nocturnal, though (most active at night) so make sure you oil the wheel or the squeaking will keep you up nights!

Rats make good pets, too. They are cute animals and they can be quite lovable. Unfortunately they live only 2-3 years.

I have a hamster now. Yes, I'm 24, I'm pathetic! LOL! Anyway, her name is Penny. I love her so much.

Here are a couple of pictures of her:

As you can see, it would be very very difficult for her to escape through the bars. She chews on them sometimes, but she never succeeds, which obviously is a good thing. The only think you have to watch out is to lock any door on the cage that the hamster could possibly escape from. They are escape artists and will get out any chance that they have.

I actually had that happen with Penny once. Christmas eve, I gave her food and pet her, and then went off to midnight mass at church. Well, I got home about an hour and a half later, and she had escaped from her cage because I forgot to lock the door. So, 2am on Christmas morning, I'm running around the house trying not to wake up people who were sleeping, and also find her. I found her all the way downstairs under the couch. She was alive and fine, but it scared me how she got all the way down there.

Also, another thing you can do if you are concerned with them escaping is putting them in a fish tank with a lid. I had a rat that lived in one for awhile, and he was fine. The hamster however, you definitely would need to put something heavy on top of the lid so they don't escape.

Kaika how exciting!! I use to have pet hamsters!! When you get one do share pictures, I love the little fuzz balls, they make such wonderful pets.

Mak62184, Penny is the same name as my dog!! Your hamster Penny is very cute, what a pretty orange color.

Kaika always be sure to play with the hamster or handle it before you buy it, I didn't once and I regreted it, I ended up with the demon hamster from hades, I kid you not this hamster was pure evil!!

I had dwarf russain hamsters, they are really cute, not vibrant coloring bu cute and little.

Having a pet is exciting.... I had a guinea pig, his name was hogan... I enjoyed him... My cousins had gerbils, hamsters and mice... They were fun to watch... They had those tunnel and wheel playgrounds in their cages and it was fun to watch them run around...
