local "on the ground" ones only, that way i know for a FACT where the money is going and what it's being used for and that 100% percent of what i give is genuinely going to the cause i wish it to go to.

I give to quite a few charities, but only local ones where I know how the money is being used. I donate monthly to the centre for addiction and mental health which is the psych hospital I was in and to covenant house which is a shelter for street youth.
I also give annually to two local hospitals, the Canadian liver foundation, and both universities that I graduated from. --splitimage |

I donate a small amount of every paycheck I make to the local United Way. My company matches my contribution and is a strong advocate of this organization's work.

I donate to our local Phoenix Youth Programs, which includes a walk in center for youth, a live in group home, and supervised apartments. I lived in the group home for a year and it basically gave me my start so I donate there.
I also donate to animal rescue places. |

One always runs the risk of appearing arrogant (superior) to another when replying to a question like this if someone's list is longer than another's.
I will post the charities I have given to, because I have found them to be honest and using the least amount of funds for the administration of the charity, and of course, because I agree with their work. Others can check them and trust them also. American Lung Association Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Boy Scouts of America Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Goodwill Industries of America Jack Van Impe Ministries National Domestic Violence Hotline National Multiple Sclerosis Society Paralyzed Veterans of America Samaritan's Purse Salvation Army Susan B Koman for the Cure Women in Distress ![]()

I am a single working mom so money is sooo tight, but when I can, I donate to the Breast Cancer foundation, American Heart Association and the local food pantry. Also every bit of change I have goes into the lovely red kettles of the Salvation Army.

Since I'm not recognized as a well known charity...
Whenever I have the penny or two, it goes to the local Salvation Army or the Valley Rescue Mission. I've come close to standing in those soup lines...

I am impressed at how many people here donate to charities. There is so much need out there and when you have limited funds, it can be hard to choose.
I no longer donate to political causes. They seem to get enough (too much) money as it is. My List: American Cancer Society Leukemia and Lymphoma Society American Lung association Arthritis Foundation our local Free Clinic United Way Care & Share Ronald McDonald House Special Olympics and there are others. Most of my contributions are handled through my Kiwanis Club. Through Kiwanis, we raise funds for many worthwhile organizations, primarily child-oriented. I have always felt that, since we as individuals cannot fix the worldwide problems, it behooves us to do what we can at home. They always say, "think globally, act locally". If enough people in your community work to make it a better community, it will become a better community. If many communities could achieve this, we would have a better world. If you are interested in Kiwanis, check out www.kiwanis.org. bfG |

i'm not making any money yet but when I do these are on the top of my list
- kwf kankerbestrijding (biggest cancerfund in the netherlands) - Something against childabuse (maybe nokidding) - Something for the nature like greenpeace, wwf or proefdiervrij (Dutch Association against Animal Testing) Also interesting - something like Amnesty - The Dutch guidedogs association or bartimeus (for visual handicapped people) - Warchild The possibilities are endless!
