My students are telling me that they've seen a mountain lion (puma) in their rural areas. Right in the town of Eleanor, where the school is located, one girl who lives next to the woody hillside, says a "wild cat" is crossing her yard. I showed her some pics of a bobcat, and she said it looked just like that. I've been to their home, which is hidden in the woods on a steep hill, and their beagle is tethered to a long run line. She says the beagle goes wild and wants to get to the cat. I told her that the beagle would probably be injured in a tangle with a bobcat. They also have a toddler and I would fear for him as well! As for mountain lions, I thought the sightings reported by students must be exaggerated, but in researching, I find there are many sightings of mountain lions in WV. Who would have thunk it!

We live right at the foot of a mountain here, and we see bobcats all the time. I hope her dog and child are kept safe. One of our pets, though, is part bobcat. He's called a pixi-bob. But he's just like a house cat. But the wild cats like that can be really dangerous. She should be very careful.
