So the Style channel (check your local listings ;-) has a new show about a severely obese woman. They're following her journey as she tries to lose nearly 300 pounds.

Several things have struck me so far, but the one I want input on is: She started seeing a pdoc for the first time ever. THEY FILMED IT. I assume she signed every waiver in the world, and so did he, and everyone involved was OK with it. But good grief -- would YOU want somebody broadcasting your time with T or pdoc to the entire country?

I guess my subquestion is, if you wouldn't mind it, what would you hope to achieve by doing so?

All I can say is, there's a reason I'm waiting till certain people are dead till I start writing my book....and I wonder if her decision to do this show was motivated by money or narcissism.

Thoughts?

I watched that show tonight.

I know I sure wouldn't want any of my sessions with either my T or my Pdoc filmed for either my use or the public's use. I just find that icky. I had a T audiotape our sessions and if I could see the tape recorder I clammed up so imagine what I would do if there was video camera in the room.

I don't think I would like recording of any nature in my session if I were going to talk about anything serious . During my pdoc session I don't usually talk about anything to deep, I keep everything very general, like I feel really depressed or anxious. I am not comfortable around cameras but if I were I might allow one to follow me to pdoc, I would be trying to accomplish more awareness to mental health issues of the world. As for this womans motivations, it's hard to say without knowing her why she would do these things. It is an interesting question though, I might have to check the show out though it's not my kind of show it sounds interesting because a lot of the reality shows out there often make me question the persons motives for putting stuff out there, since I wouldn't like a lot of my issues broadcasted to such a large audiance.

No way would I want or allow a session with my pdoc or T to be filmed or broadcast. But I've always wondered about the motivation of people who go on reality TV shows.
