I don't know if you guys have heard about this group but I love it. It's idea is to pass on things you have to other people and get things you want and keep said things out of the landfill.

Their website is www.freecycle.org and from there you find your area and it gives you your local area's website. Mine is a yahoo group and I get daily updates and requests.

You can ask for anything and also give away anything. You never know what is going to be given away on the group.

With Christmas coming up I know that several of us are having a hard time making ends meet and this might be a way to make it merrier for someone else or be able to benefit from the group.

I found freecycle to be hard to find my way around it. I like craiglist pretty well though.

I love freecycle. I've gotten rid of a lot of stuff that was still good, but I was no longer using, using it.

It seems to be really active where I'm at.

I found freecycle to be very cumbersome and I was inundated with so many updates and emails it drove me mad. Then, when I requested to be removed, I was ignored for 5 weeks. I sent a nice email each week, got no response and kept getting the updates and emails. I finally had to get stern with them and of course that brought attention...unfortunately they didn't give a rat's fart that I had been nice for 5 weeks before I got upset...and they in turn ripped me a new one. I told them to go pound sand.....I've never dealt with such rude people as I had to with them.

All that said, I like the idea of freecycle and I do know many folks have benefited from it....I was just not one of them

i similarly found freecycle to be a pain in the butt. it's a nice idea but there is so much traffic, a lot of it is unpleasant, and anything worthwhile is snapped up right away. though obviously that means it is good for getting rid of things fast.

personally i found craigslist to be a little more civilized. that's the first time that's ever been said about craigslist, right there.

Sabby, I had the same experience with too many notifications and took sooo long to get taken off after my request. The idea of it is awesome and they do have some good things offered, though.

I'm a member of the local Freecycle but have only been a member for a couple of weeks. There are lots of good things available but since I have no car, moving big things would be a problem. When I signed up I chose the option of having no emails from them and so have not had any problems with excessive mail. I haven't got anything yet from Freecycle so idk how well it works but it's a good idea in concept...

we use freecycle, here you can choose to have each msg sent as a email or all sent as one, we tried both ways but getting the list we noticed that things were not always on there but you get a notification saying the item is gone

on the other hand we have put out requests for stuff and given stuff away, i keep getting asked by others to ask for stuff for them and more often and not we get the stuff, i posted on another post about a good table we picked up allowing us to downsize the table we had and advertise it on freecycle
