...and in front of students, no less!
Homebase...7th graders...which I have on Tues., Thurs. for 30 minutes. We had finished our activity, and I moved two rowdy boys up near my desk in order to prevent them from creating disturbance. 5 minutes left in the homebase time. Both boys were within 3 feet of me at seperate desks. The rest of students are at the art tables. I scooted my chair from one spot to another at my desk, and a small, very audible fart popped out! (Is "fart" a bad word? If so, I apologize, but that's exactly what it was!) I turned to look at the one boy three feet away, and he had this look of ....I don't know how to describe it...! I had the "deer in the headlights" look on my face, and said to him..."That's never happened before!" Soon the whole class was aware of what had happened. I laughed and said, "Well, I'm human!" One of the other boys in my class said, "My brother calls those 'old woman farts.' " To which I laughed and said, yes, that's what it is! The one really rotten kid sitting nearest me has taken to me since that incident. I can't explain it. He wants to be my buddy, LOL!

Oh patty - LOL. What a situation. I am willing to bet that because you handled it in such a calm, cool and collected humorous way, it made you seem a little more human to them rather than just an authority figure.

You did a great job of taking it in stride

OMG.. I am laughing soo hard.. How embarrassing! Bless your heart... An old lady fart.. OMG... oooh geesssssss..

If that had happened to me, I would have just died.. lol I would have looked up and said "who did that". or blame it on anyone ... School is just not the place where you can blame it on the dog..

Anyway, you did a great job handling the situation.

((((((((((( Patty ))))))))))))

That was a treasured moment indeed! As embarrassing as it may have been.....the "only human" factor truly made a difference at least in one boy's eyes

I hope you don't mind me sharing an embarrassing moment that I had with my women's bowling team. My team mates were anything but feminine....we were a bunch of women who liked to drink beer and be a bit obnoxious (all in having fun, nothing too rude). One night I got up to bowl my frame and I did a horrible job and kind of lobbed the ball instead of rolling it. I was pretty upset with myself and I mouthed the word *f*. To my total dismay and horror, the temporary tooth I had in the front stuck to my lower lip and then went flying half way down the alley!!!!!

I stood there for a moment not really knowing what to do, I started cracking up laughing as did my whole team and the ones we were bowling against. I finally decided to very gingerly walk down the lane and pick up my tooth, went to the ladies room and washed it off but good and put it back in my mouth. I have never lived that moment down and it's been about 25 years since it happened.
