You should be alert during the next few days.

who sent it to you.

It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which

'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer.

This virus will be

received from someone

who has your e-mail address in his/her con tact list.

This is the

reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts It is

better to receive this mess age 25 times than to receive the v irus

If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by
a

This is the worst virus announced by CNN.

It has been classified by

http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp

Actually, if you check snopes too, and read through, this is a form of a virus. However, it is not a virus that can burn an entire HD. The info is near the end of the page

I have a virus on my computer but I can't seem to get rid of it, one of my computers got destroyed completely and my ex mother in law gave me another computer, but now my other computer has popups telling me I have all these virus's yet nothing I do gets rid of it. I don't have a recovery disc or i would just wipe everything out. But mainly it is just the fact that the virus is trying to steal my personal information.

Shelle,
Jmo, but go to any of the anti-virus software sites that offer free scans. I use Avast. But there are other ones that are very good.
Microsoft has a Live Safety Scan that checks for malware but also cleans the registry and defrags if necessary.

Good luck,
Cap

I saw an post on a computer forum for your exact problem:

Your computer has multiple infections, including a backdoor. A backdoor gives intruders complete control of your computer, logs your keystrokes, steal personal information, etc.

You are strongly advised to do the following:
  • Disconnect the computer from the Internet and from any networked computers until it is cleaned.
  • Back up all your important data except programs. The programs can be reinstalled back from the original disc or from the Net.
  • Call all your banks, financial institutions, credit card companies and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and put a watch on your accounts. If you don't mind the hassle, change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change all your passwords (ISP login password, your email address(es) passwords, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, Amazon, online groups and forums and any other online activities you carry out which require a username and password).
Do NOT change your passwords from this computer as the attacker will be able to get all the new passwords and transaction records.

Due to its backdoor functionality, your computer is very likely to have been compromised and there is no way that it can be trusted again. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be to do a reformat and reinstallation of the operating system (OS). However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your OS and would like me to attempt to clean your machine, I will be happy to do so.

To help you understand more, please take some time to read the following articles:

What are Remote Access Trojans and why are they dangerous
How do I respond to a possible identity theft and how do I prevent it
When should I do a reformat and reinstallation of my OS
Where to backup your files
How to backup your files in Windows XP
Restoring your backups
Thanks for this!

In short, no, it wouldn't. And i'll explain why. Though the virus is set to release on this date, it will continue to proliferate after that. So as soon as you turn on the computer the next day, you would be at risk for getting the virus from someone who is infected already. Good thought though!

Added: Eeps, you were talking to capp. sorry for jumping ahead of her! lol

You just have to be careful like you would any other day and you won't catch viruses
