Hi everyone,

On one of the other posts, Rudicollis shared with us what their screen name stood for. I thought this was a cool idea so I decided to start a thread for anyone else that cared to share!! You can share what it means, where it came from, or you don't have to share at all and you can just stop by to read....doesn't matter!!

Thank you for the inspiration for this Rudicollis!

So...I had a general idea of what my name Elysium meant when I chose it, but I looked online to get a better idea and this is what I found...

I shared in that post but I will share again. Mine is a shortened version of my original screen name janniebug. People started calling me jannie and although that is nice it started to annoy me. So I shortened it to jbug. I still get called bug or buggie and I like that too but I sign all my posts with Jan because that is my real name and I like using that. I don't mind buggie because that is what I have been called for so long.

Janniebug was a childhood nickname along with janetbanenet but I hated that one but liked Janniebug.

Jan

TheLionKingLives is kind of a collection of many parts of me.
1- I am a Leo (astrology)
2- My older 2 kids were big fans of the Lion king
3- I personally iIdentify to simba in that movie...in my life.
4- In the last year I've started practicing a more pagan spirituality. There was alot of controversy when the movie came out on if the movie was covertly planting "evil" Pagan rituals & belief's in the youth to "destroy" christianity
5- The book of Babylon photo that Malady156 is a great picture & would like her permission to use it as an avatar.

^_^
When I made this screen name, I had a pug puppy named "Lexi" and I was very close to her.
232 is just something I randomly placed in my usernames a very long time ago (when I was about 11yrs old), and it stuck. I use it anytime the username is already used, I just stick the 232 at the end.
Funny though, Soon after I first started putting 232 on my usernames, my grandfather's work ext. was 232. Sometimes I wonder if it was already his ext. and I just subconsciously added that number because it was fresh in my mind, or what? lol

This is a very interesting thread ^_^

My name ThunderBear is my Native American name. Bear because it is my totem and well my personality because well I hibernate in the winter and have a grumpy disposition and Thunder because I am loud and I demand respect. When my husband and i first got together he called me "u-sti e-'tsi" which in Cherokee means Little Mother but as he got to know me better he called me Thunderbear lol and well it stuck

origin of our screen name is well known to some

Zorah is an old testament name, meaning a place where hornets live (probably), we chose to use this to signify "a nest of hornets" to represent our group of alters
our full name is Zorah's Nest

Misanthropy
is a general dislike, distrust, or hatred of the human species or a disposition to dislike and/or distrust other people's silent consensus about reality. The word comes from the Greek words μίσος (misos, "hatred") and άνθρωπος ( anthrōpos, "man, human being"). A misanthrope is a person who dislikes or distrusts humanity as a general rule.

While misanthropes express a general dislike for humanity on the whole, they generally have normal relationships with specific people. Misanthropy may be motivated by feelings of isolation or social alienation, or simply contempt for the prevailing characteristics of humanity.
Misanthropy is commonly misinterpreted and distorted as a widespread and individualized hatred of humans. Because of this, a great number of false negative tie-ins are often associated with the term. An extreme misanthrope may indeed hate the human species generally, but it does not necessarily entail psychopathy. Misanthropes can hold normal and intimate relationships with people, but they will often be very few and far between. They will typically be very selective with whom they choose to associate. This is also where their aversion is most prevalent, because their perspective shows an overriding contempt towards common human faults and weaknesses in others and, in some cases, themselves.

It is because of that aversion that most misanthropes will often be categorized as loners, living in seclusion. They generally will not find solace or effective functioning in society as a result of their perspective. However, effectively functioning in society has little or no value to the misanthrope, and the prospect of fitting into their culture seems to them like idiocy.

Misanthropic quotes

"I have found little that is good about human beings on the whole. In my experience most of them are trash, no matter whether they publicly subscribe to this or that ethical doctrine or to none at all. That is something that you cannot say aloud, or perhaps even think." - Sigmund Freud

"I am free of all prejudices. I hate everyone equally." - W.C. Fields

"I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you aren’t actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? –A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we... are the cure." - Agent Smith of the film The Matrix

mine is because I feel when life gets me down, I have often felt like there is only me and no one else to help.....except that is different being HERE because people are always helpful when I need it.

The second part is because I live with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). Plain as that.

Wow!!. I have periods where I feel very much like this. I imagine the difference is the frequency & the fact that I do long for a society where I feel I belong...but not necessairily the status quo society.
Thanks for sharing

My current name was randomly selected for anonymity.

I used to have a name that was more personal to me, but once out of curiosity I "Googled it" and the first entry that came up was my psych central profile. That really scared me, because anyone who knew my email or usual screen name from other sites could find very personal and uncomfortable information about me just by searching my name. So I changed it right away. Pink_Lotus is a pretty common screen name all over the world, unlike my old, more unique name, so I feel pretty safe with it.

Well, I wanted my username to be personal, but also be anonymous. So, I chose the Japanese translation of my name. My real name means blooming flower (and no, it's not Blossom ) and Kaika is the Japanese equivalent of that. The first kanji in the name "Kai" () means open, unfold, bloom, etc... the second "Ka" () is flower or blossom. Sometimes I use them in my avatar and stuff. I checked it out for chinese because Kanji is Chinese characters (Japan stole China's writing system centuries ago) And it's the same thing, but Hua instead of Ka

Oh, and I googled my username, and a bunch of stuff that was completely unrelated to be showed up. Yahoo~

Mine is pretty simple... sweetpea was my nickname back in Iowa (the result of my going and blowing $200 on Sweetpea stuff at Bath & Body Works and having it in my apartment, on me, in my car, at my desk at work... EVERYWHERE... and I still wear the stuff ) and the TX part is for where I am now, and where I plan to always be... my boyfriend ordered me a bumper sticker that reads "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could". This is a cool thread... I sometimes woder how people come up with their names!

I chose this name bacause I feel either catatonic or manic usually.

Catatonia is a condition marked by changes in muscle tone or activity associated with a large number of serious mental and physical illnesses. There are two distinct sets of symptoms that are characteristic of this condition. In catatonic stupor the individual experiences a deficit of motor (movement) activity that can render him/her motionless. Catatonic excitement, or excessive movement, is associated with violent behavior directed toward oneself or others.

Mania is an abnormally elated mental state, typically characterized by feelings of euphoria, lack of inhibitions, racing thoughts, diminished need for sleep, talkativeness, risk taking, and irritability. In extreme cases, mania can induce hallucinations and other psychotic symptoms.
