Have just found out that I am prediabetic. I have also gained 30 lbs since I started taking Abilify which is prescribed (10 mg) for Major Depressive Disorder. Abilify can cause prediabetes and diabetes.
Pdoc agrees I can taper the med, but wants me to come off of it rather quickly: cut my dose in half to 5 mg for 1 week and then stop it all together. Isn't this taper schedule a little quick? What can I expect in the way of withdrawal symptoms? |

I went off of it because my blood sugar got high... And I'm not in anyway even a risk of developing diabetes. I can see why he would want to I guess. I'm not sure if that is considered quick or not. 1 week isn't horribly short. Ask about 2 weeks if try going down the first week and the withdrawal symptoms are bad. When I went off of it, I went pretty much directly onto another medication, so I can't say if my experience was valid. I can't tell if I was adjusting to new medication of going off the old one. I was in the hospital so they did everything so fast. - loss of appetite - anxiety - weight loss - dizziness Weight loss was the thing that lasted forever. I was never overweight.. I was actually for the first time normal on the drug. I was 130 now I am 105-110 lbs. I'm 5'5". I didn't even know it was making me eat a lot and gain weight until I read about it. I hate Abilify and all medication in general. I'm pretty off all medication at this point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
