I've only been on haloperidol for about 3 weeks now, but I already want off of it. How quickly could I come off of it after having only been on it for such a short amount of time?

My current diagnosis is being mildly schizoaffective at least in regards to the psychotic symptoms. They're honestly not that bad considering my doc allowed me to go a full year before trying an antipsychotic.

I know I should talk to my doc about this, but I won't be seeing him until the 20th of this month, about 2 weeks out.

I know some of you guys are medical professionals, but any advice would be appreciated!

I am not a medical professional. That said, you are quite right that you should wait until the 20th when you see your Doctor to discuss coming off haloperidol. Are the side effects manageable? I would create a list of all the effects this medication has had on you and present it to your doctor so nothing is left out. From there your doctor would be able to safely take you off.

Hi, as MeditatingMan advises, you'll be wise to talk about that with your doctor. I remember in my very early twenties, however, I had been on Stelazine or Mellaril for just a few weeks, and had to discontinue them myself cold turkey. I had no issues from that.

But it's still a good idea and recommended that you consult your doctor since everyone is different and has different reactions to all these meds. I wish you good luck.
