I met Clay in 7th grade and we were buddies throughout high school and beyond. His mom and mine worked together, but we all lost touch when my parents moved out of my hometown (pre-email days).

He had the sharpest mind I've ever come across, but he couldn't reconcile what his religion told him about himself -- that he was perverted, evil, etc for being gay -- and he shot himself. I just found out about it through another good friend of ours from back in the day with whom I've recently reconnected.

It's such a frigging waste.

Religion in my opinon is the bane of all evil. Make us feel bad for being US....I don't mean to offend anyone. I am not anti god. I am anti organized religion.
I'm sorry about your friend. I hope he is at peace with himself now.

I agree wholeheartedly about organized religion.

to you both and thank you for the condolences. I'm still having a hard time coping with the news.

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear about the death of your friend. I agree that religion should not, make you feel bad for being gay. I'm sorry he couldn't come to terms with it. My brother (now passed) was gay - even though I was a little disappointed at first, I quickly got over it and I loved him unconditionally. I believe homosexuals are born this way, just as heterosexuals are. I don't practice my religion in a formal sense. I like to think I have a personal connection- and I do that by trying to be a good person.
I wish people were more accepting. My daughters 11 yrs and the popular thing right now is calling others gay. No one says "oh you're heterosexual, as an insult - right?" Sorry again for your friend - sad he was made to feel bad for who he was.
