Weird title, I know. And it's not exactly a loss of a relative or anything like that, however I am one of those people that gets greatly attached to pets. When I was about 7, I adopted a stray cat (who kept visiting our garden and fell ill shortly before we adopted her) and after a couple weeks, she became my best friend. She'd sleep with me every single night, and follow me around.
She got old and ill when I was around 12 years old and had to be put to sleep, and I went to school that morning and told her I'd see her when I got home and that the vets was nothing to worry about. Well, I came home and she was dead which wrecked havoc with my emotions - I felt guilty and just mourned over my best friend dying. Now, I'm 16, and a stray cat has come visiting our garden, just like my old cat, and I am adamant that we should take it in before it gets ill and all of that. My mum wants to keep it too, and so we're taking it to the vets this weekend. But my point of this post is to ask whether my feelings about this cat - how I so much want to take it in, and rescue it and such (even though I am much more of a dog person), could it be related to my loss of my last cat and how much of a bond I had with her and wanting to rekindle that with a new cat to fill the space, almost. I probably just blurted out a load of nonsense, and I most likely just find this cat cute, but my boyfriend mentioned that I might just be wanting to fill the space my old cat left and also want to 'rescue' this cat to make up for feeling guilty about what happened with my last cat.. |

it could be to fill the void you are suffering at the loss of your old dear friend. there is nothing wrong with that. there is nothing to say if this was the first cat that walked into your garden, just like the very first cat that walked into your garden, you wouldn't be attracted to it as well. your feelings are probably just stronger because of the loss.

I agree with Kaliope. Whatever the reason for the attatchment, it's okay. I hope you turn out to be great friends.

My precious cat died of old age 2 years ago this month. My grief over losing her has not gotten one bit better. I strongly suggest that you take the kitty who has found you into your life and love.
