I found this episode of Oprah's Super Soul Sunday with Madonna Badger to be extremely helpful. Madonna Badger lost her three young girls and two parents in a fire about three years ago. She had some profound things to say about the parent-child bond and grief on Oprah's program.
I am grieving the loss of my mom, who died four years ago. It's been so terribly rough. Madonna Badger on Oprah's SuperSoulSunday: The Description Of Grief That Changed Everything For Madonna Badger After Her Enormous Loss (VIDEO) |

You know what helped the most from watching that program? One of Madonna Badger's therapists observed that she wasn't crazy or emotionally ill...she was just very, very sad. That therapist explained how the parent/child bond is a real connection. It's like one big nerve connects mother to child. When one of them die, the "nerve" is severed. The survivor is left with a giant raw severed nerve.
That totally makes sense to me...and describes what I have been experiencing so well... |
