Today my brother would've turned 55.

He completely missed his daughter and son growing up.

She was three when he died. His son was three months.

Stuck a needle in his vein and died from an overdose of heroin. He'd been straight/sober for eight years.

When he fell off the wagon, he fell hard but at least he finally found peace.

It's the ones he left behind that are still searching.

I just answered someone in a PM, about how in December I will face another "would-be" birthday.

Had my other brother not died of Aids by sticking a needle full of heroin into his veins, he would be turning 53.

They died within five years of each other. Both addicts.

It's a complicated story, which makes the grief process difficult. As I look back and start to get my thoughts wrapped around everything, I see not only do I grieve their deaths, I grieve for our lives.

i am sorry about your loss. i lost my sister in a car accident. this december will be 10 years. i have the hardest time still. she was also my best friend. do you do anything on the anniversary of his death? i go to the cemetary, but this year i want to do something special. my heart goes out to you.
