I am so sorry to learn that Anthony Boudain was found dead by suicide (hanging) this morning. I'm not really surprised, since he always seemed to be haunted by "demons", but I am shocked. We are losing too many amazing people.

I read the following this morning. Cause for some serious concern:

Suicide is a growing problem in the United States. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a survey Thursday showing suicide rates increased by 25% across the United States over nearly two decades ending in 2016. Twenty-five states experienced a rise in suicides by more than 30%, the government report finds.

Wow that's sad. I used to watch his travel shows a long time ago. No reservations? He seemed like a really chill guy. Sad. So much sadness in this world.
Thanks for this!

Suicide is in the top ten causes of death in USA. In my state it is number 8 and they just closed a suicide hotline for lack of funds. People ( government especially) seem to think if we ignore it, it will go away. Imagine the outcry there would be if a major cancer research facility was closed for lack of funds......yet that's not happening with the closing of the last statewide suicide hotline.

So true, Nammu. If a cancer research center closed the news would be online, there would be angry outcry....Already this morning I saw a Fabebook post from a friend I consider(ed) to be an intelligent, well-informed person. The poster mentioned that she had always seen Anthony B. as a "strong person, not a weak one".

It's words like that, beliefs like that, that make me want to spend more and more time around people with mental illness...people who truly understand.

As a person who struggles with grandiosity, and schizophrenia (due to brain damage) AND spends time rearranging sentences just to make the post more comprehensible, I can tell that struggling from psychosis is very, very hard.

I am not a psychiatrist or psychologist, but from what I gather, it's a very disabling illness that when untreated or mistreated makes the person live in a living hell. Here I myself am trying to help others (in this forum) and I myself cannot be understood.

Thanks for this post Laurie. Before I even logged into PC I saw this news. The media and television often gives us access into peoples lives. We get to see people doing what they do. TV shows about food or Movies etc give greater access to individual that we normally would not come into direct contact with.

Because of this contact more people grieve the loss of celebs because we "allow" them into out lives. I suppose that is the nature of Media. Therefore we are impacted by Anthony's suicide and so many others because of this connection. We all hide such torment inside celeb or not.

Suicide is such a sad and lonely thing. The ripple effect for every single act of suicide is horrid. I have known people in my own life who have done this. It's very hard to get one's head around the act and the ensuing grief.
