My best friend has an illness and is likely to die within the year and I really don't know how to deal with it. She doesn't like talking about it and hasn't brought it up with our other friends either. She's the only person I'm really close to, so I'm worried that if or when it does happen I'm going to take it very badly. If anyone has any tips or anything about how I can cope better I'd really appreciate it.

Hello stardusterr: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.
Here's a link to an article by our host Dr. John Grohol, Psy.D., from Psych Central's archives, on the subject of coping with grief & loss. The article provides links to a number of additional articles on the subject: Coping with Grief | Psych Central I hope you find PC to be of benefit. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." Be there for her when and if she wants to say something. Chances are she will say something. Tell her what you want you need to so there are no regrets for you. Good friends are so hard to come by.
