A close friend of mine committed suicide on Sun., and I found out yesterday. I'm stunned and incredibly saddened.

We had a lot in common. We were both alcoholics who really struggled with sobriety on top of having mental health issues.

I knew she'd been struggling due to a recent relapse with alcohol, but she'd managed to get 18 days sober again and was pretty upbeat the last time I heard from her.

Then boom, this.

I just wished she'd confided in me, how badly she was really feeling.

I am genuinely sorry for your loss of your friend.

It is our loss too I feel. This world we live in is full of stress previous generations may not have known in the same way.

Feel free to PM me or reply here how you are doing.

Losing a loved one to suicide is a very harsh type of grief. I am so, so sorry for your loss.

Thank you all for your support. It means a lot to me. I'm lucky my IRL friends have all also been incredibly supportive.

Her funeral was yesterday, and I went and cried a lot. But it helped.

I'm still sad, but it's not as overwhelming.

Hugs splitimage. It is rough but you have got through this far. Everyone grieves differently.

I lost someone and the grief was bad leading up to that, but after the funeral more grief came out and I was much more emotional than usual. I had to go to support groups because IRL people just started the "they are gone, move on" which was no help at all. At least in the support group for Loss and Grief people all there knew what grief was from experience and they did not try to pretend it was not there.

I completely understand how you feel. I lost my brother in law to suicide. I wish that I had notice something was wrong. But I didn't. I just lost my mom four month before.
