He was 19. We spent 17 of those as bffs. He was my therapy dog. We hung out together all the time. He helped me get through the loss of my other dog. He lived with me in every single house in my life thus far. It's been 4 months but I'm still drowning in sadness and so much regret. 💔

@DP_2017 sorry for the loss of your dog. That sounds like you were really close.

Have you given any thought to getting another dog? You seem to really love dogs.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost our beloved Schnoodle over two years ago now. And we still miss him every day.

It's hard. Especially this time of year. It's like I'm here but I'm not. I've mentally checked out of life. It's incredibly hard to remember basic things. This has deeply effected me and idk how to cope.

I wish I knew what to tell you. About the only thing I can say is it does get better with time. The trauma of the loss subsides gradually and you're left with just fond memories and kind-of a dull ache. (To this day, we still instinctively avoid walking where Joey's food and water dishes used to sit.) In our case, we have no other pets. And at this point in our lives we likely never will. But we're grateful for the years we had our boy.

My mom lost her dog two years ago and she misses the companionship but she can hardly walk so it is not easy to start out new with a pet at her age of 94.

My heart goes out to you. They most certainly become like our children. I'm sending you thoughts of comfort and healing.

@DP_2017, I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved companion.....Being sad and grieving his loss is normal and natural.

Eventually, the severe grief will get a little better with time.....I know it's not easy....I've been through it myself.

My thoughts are with you during this time of sorrow....
