I recently found out from my mother that she is dying. She has at the most a few years left. This comes a month after my daughter's mother passed away, and my daughter herself is extremely ill going in and out of the hospital all year, though this time she seems to be very bad. I've never dealt with loss very well and now I'm getting all this happening at once. Not sure at all how to deal with this.

My daughter will be three in January, and as much as would like to be with her, she lives halfway across the continent. I was able to go there for a few days last week, but it's just not possible to get away from work for very long. Phone calls are as good as I can do at this point.

is there any chance you could move there to be with her? I know how hard it is to be far away from those we care so deeply for and can't be there in their time of need like this. especially a child.

It's basically impossible. I live in a large city with a great job. She lives in a very isolated community with no real job chances. We have plans to move together to another city. But it's hard for her to leave the only house she's ever known. And I have been in such a bad state mentally for the last few months, that I have to think what is best for her. I can't take care of her until I take care of myself. I was able to visit her for a few days last week, but I know that between her situation and mine, it's best that she stays with her grandparents for now.
It really hurts me to know that I am not able to take care of my own daughter. It's such a horrible feeling. |
