So... I went on a too-strict "dieting" plan in Oct, and lost 40 pounds, a lot of it rather quickly. My doctor thinks I've cured my pre-diabetes by getting to a regular weight, which is really cool. But losing it so fast has given me gall stones and sludge, which, after an incredibly painful spasm attack last night and a trip to the ER, will have to be removed with surgery. I'm not sure whether they're going to remove just the stones or the whole organ. I see the surgeon tomorrow...

Has anyone here had this done? Apparently both my paternal grandmother and aunt had surgery, one with just the stones removed and the other with all of it. The doctor told me to eat low-fat, but I was already doing that.

Anyway, anyone have anything to say about it? I'm still sore and tired from that spasm attack and being in the ER until almost 4am... so I'm not exactly thinking my clearest...

When I had a stone, and many years of gallbladder pain, I was told the gallbladder wasn't working. I had it removed in a laparascopic procedure, which was relatively new at the time. After 1 day of post-anesthesia tiredness, I felt great! A very easy surgery. Sometimes for a while after you still have to watch what you eat, but gradually your digestive systeme learns to operate without the little holding area for bile, which is all the gallbladder is

Yeah. I had the surgery last Monday. Went well, just healing up now.

Of course, of all the times this summer to have this, it has to be in the only time that's really been warm enough to swim...
