I have a lot of trouble with taking care of my skin. I've tried a lot of different face washes. I wash my face twice a day, morning and night. I was using this cleaner that works perfectly for me, but I'm breaking out like crazy again. I don't really get why this is. I mean, I've heard that some cleaners won't work for forever, but it doesn't seem like I should have to switch cleaners every three months. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to improve the way my skin looks? :/

It may be stress or other factors that are causing the breakouts. I didn't have any problem with them as a teenager, but now that I have had 2 children and am in my 30s, I have issues on and off. If it is near the begining of my cycle or if I am really stressed, I break out.

I have found that what works for younger people doesn't work for me. Think about what may be causing this besides the cleanser. Also, are your pillow cases clean? It's not something we remember much, but they can hold on to dirt and oil and redeposit that onto your face when you sleep...

Hope that helps!

It is kind of a myth that acne is due to skin being unclean. In particular, if your cleanser strips your skin of its natural oils then your skin can respond by producing more oils which can result in more acne...

Acne is hormonal. I'm not sure about the severity of your breakouts but it might help to mention things to your doctor. There is a variety of birth control pill (for instance) that helps reduce acne - and that might be an option. There are other options as well.

I have a form of acne that is a little too mild for whatever medication it is that significantly reduces the oil output of the skin... A couple docs now have reccommended proactive to me. They said start out very light indeed with it and then increase the amount over time, but that that was definately worth a shot.

Has anyone here given that a go?

it depends on a lot of things, but mainly stress/hormonal imbalance and also what you are putting into your body (foods, lack of vitamins) will determine break outs more than your skin being "not clean".

i take a herbal supplement and that has cleared up my (really bad) cystic acne. i went on a variety of pills for a while, and they were great, but the side effects eventually got to me (morning sickness). but i am particularly sensitive to that.

i would recommend talking to your GP. they might be able to give you a topical treatment that will clear your skin up, and help implement longer lasting change. a dermatologist would be ideal, but your GP would be able to tell you if it's worth the visit.

Deli, what supplement is it? Maybe it would help me. I have cystic acne and took antibiotics orally for a number of years but I've developed tolerance/resistance to them, unfortunately. I had to take birthcontrol pills for a year for another reason and my skin was perfect during this time! But now I'm off hormones, antbiotics don't work, and topicals aren't strong enough for me. I need something systemic. Maybe this herbal supplement would help. Acne sure is a pain. My face is currently a mess. I don't understand how some people can have clear skin. My insurance won't even pay for most acne medications because they only cover them for teen agers and young adults. What is the thinking on that? If you're older and have acne, too bad--get scars, be ugly, etc.

I heard that. It's hard to figure out reasons for break outs sometimes. I was taking some special vitamins for break outs, and it was after that that the condition really got worse. Try Indian Clay Mask from health food store. It's a green powder that you mix with vinegar and refrigerate. I use it daily, which may be too much for some. Murad Acne Complexs with salysilic [spelling] acid works pretty well for me if I am regular with it. I have to cut out all possible sugar! Whoever said diet has nothing to do with skin condition must have been talking about some other skin condition. Sweat. Drink fluids. Wishing You Success ~ billieJ

Amen, Sunrise. Take comfort in the fact that there are several of us and that there are answers, if we can find them.

Stress, Diet and Hormones are the top three reason for acne.
My dermatologist recommends using Cetaphil face wash and lotion.

Rhaps. had a great one...cetaphil is very gentle on the skin. I know your cleanser did work for awhile however cleansers can be very harsh on your skin...especially if used alot. I used a ton of cleansers on my skin and i was always breaking out. I ended up using some regular dove soap(bars) my mom bought me and go figure...it went away...others are right though...stress and horomones can play a big big big part! If it gets really bad perhaps going to a dermatogolist would be a good idea. He could give you some medication or special cleansers to help. Good luck!

I use Cetaphil, too and also I have to use unscented Dove to bathe. There is another one my Dr. also recommended but I just can't think of it at the moment. If I can remember it, I'll be sure to add it to the list.
