Seriously, I'm eating like a horse (!) and losing weight at the same time. Which is great but I am so hungry all the time.

Thanks.

Pegs,
Different types of worms will show in your stool while others won't...same thing with **** itching.
Most likely if this continues your physician will ask for a stool specimen.

but there are other medical conditions that can be the cause of your symptoms.

Please put aside any embarrassment you may have and see your doc.

Catherine

Thanks, I don't have any itching down there so maybe it isn't worms. I'm not too worried at the moment as I need to lose weight anyway.

My doctor thought i had worms when i was 5. He told my mom the best way to find out if i had worms was when i was sleeping he told her to go into my room at around 12 am or 1 am at night and pull my underwear and look at my butt hole. LOL yep its true. So my mom got a flash light and had to look at my butthole at 1 am. Apparently they come out at night without the person even knowing. I dont know why but thats what he said. I never did have them but my cousin did and they found out she had them by the same method he told my mom to do. So hopefully youll find a candiate to look at your butt at 1 am. Thats the only method i know! Good Luck!

I had worms.
For months.

The major sign was serious itching down below and you could see them very clearly in my stool.

Not pretty.

if you are eating a lot (same/more than usual) but are losing weight then i would suggest you go to a doctor. it might be worms, but it might be something else altogether - something serious that you need to catch early on.

only your doc will know the right questions to ask to determine what explanations you could be looking at. when i started losing weight, i thought it was great and didnt say anything - but it quickly turned into a nightmare and i wish i had gone to my doc earlier.
Thanks for this!

Thanks.

Ok, I don't think it is worms. I do think I probably need to see a Doctor at some point. It was great to go shopping recently and find I have gone down a size and I can get into some of my old clothes from years ago! The only other symptom would be extreme tiredness but I have put that down to over-working.

i do not want to alarm you, (((pegasus))), but i really would urge you to see your doctor as soon as you can. unexplained tiredness and weight loss against a background of stable/increased food consumption = not a good combination.

it may well turn out that because you are overworking that you are tired, eating more, burning more energy etc. but if i lived anywhere near you i would march you over to a doctor, pronto! let them decide what's what .

Ok deliquesce! I'd love to see you but it would cost you a fortune to get over here!

I will look into seeing the Doc and let you know.

well, at least i won't be anywhere near you should your doctor recommend the flashlight/pants down/1am approach, so i can bow out gracefully from being the 'volunteer inspector' for that .
Thanks for this!

The flashlight trick is good for 'pin worms' but not for tape worms which are longer/larger - a person would also be anemic with tape worm. There are many other sicknesses that would explain weight, even though the person is eating well - ex. over active thyroid. Please go to your doctor and get a complete physical/bloodwork and stool sample.I know you're happy about the weight loss but please find out the reason for it. LOL about not be able to find a volunteer to do the flashlight trick

Yeah, thinking about worms (ew) the dog is wormed regularly and I'm not in the habit of going in the garden and eating worms so scratch that! It was the first thought that came to mind. It was just the amount of food I've been shoving down. I can usually just look at a chocolate and put on weight ya know! I don't feel ill just completely worn out but that's from doing long shifts at work. Saying all that I tend to only eat fruit at work, it's the only food you can eat on the go!

How do you know if you have worms? Wrong end but you know what I mean!

[quote=pegasus;1168349]Yeah, thinking about worms (ew) the dog is wormed regularly and I'm not in the habit of going in the garden and eating worms so scratch that! How do you know if you have worms? You should have put "no punn intended! That's the funniest picture and how appropriate to the topic LOL. Speaking of pet worms - my dog had whip worms(not transmitable to humans although some other pet worms are. Unfortunately she shockingly has been guilty of eating other dogs pooh(gasp). I was amazed to learn in the literature that the eggs can survive 3 yrs in hot or freezing weather. Humans can also get worms by gardening without gloves and can enter the body through open cuts or not washing hands, then eating.
I once saw a documentary from Africa and the villagers were drinking from the same water the cows go in. They showed this one man who had a worm just under the skin(as long as he was tall). It was starting to come out of his ankle. So he wrapped the tip around a pencil and everyday a little more came out - so gross. I know this is more info than you wanted LOL. Thanks Pegasus for the laugh!!

Pegs,
When was the last time you had a blood panel done?
Seriously, there are medical conditions that can be causing this...

If nothing shows, that's good and you'll know that you need to take better care of yourself.
If something shows up? Meds, etc. may be in order...

Take care of you
