My friend has COPD and she keeps getting respiratory infections and feels like she can't breath. She still smokes and that really does not make sense to me.

As a CNA, I have seen several people with COPD ~ both patients and nurses. Unfortunately, it is a long, tough road to cope.
Shortness of breath increases as the disease progresses. Inhaler dependency increases, and an oxygen tank helps. Doing whatever you can to slow the disease, the better you will feel. Small, frequent meals. Losing any excess weight will make breathing less stressful. Relaxation exercises can help with breathing a lot! You need to take slow breaths, meditate, exercise regularly. The healthier one is, the easier it is for them to breathe. Getting stressed out makes breathing much more difficult and intensifies a vicious cycle. Best wishes to you and your family! Shez |

Use those inhalers regularly. They are preventative, so if you don't use them regularly, they won't do you any good. Good luck to you.
