I have Celiac, and Yes it totally annoys me! I hate watching people eat all the foods that I can't eat any more especially the goodies for holidays. But I don't think I have to worry about gaining any weight this year. (I was diagnosed in June). I have just started having middle of the night insomnia. I hate that I don't know what the problems that come up are related to and I hate that doctors know so little about it. I'm in grad school so I don't have a GI so it frustrates me that I think when I go in after the new year to get tests done (vitamins etc) and ask for a referal to an allergist to find out what other foods I'm sensitive/allergic to (and there definitely others) that I am going to have to walk them through it all. My GP when I first got diagnosed gave me a packet or stuff to read and said that if I read it I would know everything about it that she did. Yes she was a resident, but still. Along with the complications of gluten being in everything, CC and people not understanding (though I've been really lucky with that so far.)

I hope that you are able to find good holiday foods.

UGHHHHHH!
Thanks for this!

I read the ingredients on packets of food even if I'm not going to buy them. Old habits die hard.

My bf has recently discovered that he has it. His family and him are so used to him sneezing 20 times after every meal, not being able to breathe and just feeling horrible that noone thought anything of it. So I started making dinner with things gluten free and his symptoms all went away. Then one day he eats some fast food..... 20 mins later he is sneezing, his nose is running, his eyes are watering and 20 mins after that he is bloated. So we are now in the process of learning some gluten-free dinners and some diet changes that will help him out.

There is a good website www.celiac.com that has a lot of good information on it and a forum for getting advice from others who have celiac and other GI problems. Make sure to take it one day at a time. Also know that one thing that will probably happen with your bf is that he will become more sensitive to gluten as his intestines heal. (ie smaller amounts will cause problems.) Make sure you replace plastic and wood things (spoons etc) and nonstick pans. They all collect small amounts of gluten and can redeposit them in food when you use them. Forgive me if you already have this information. Feel free to PM me if you have questions and I will do my best to answer them. (I was only diagnosed last June.)
