Hello.

I'm 15, and I had my first black out Sunday.

I was at a parade with my friend, and we were sitting out in the sun for an hour. Then we were walking around and riding rides at the carnival. After getting off a spinning ride, I felt nauseous. I sat down, thinking it was just the ride. After sitting down for a few minutes, I lost my vision, hearing, and blacked out.

Yesterday, I blacked out a second time. I was waiting in line for a ride at a water park. Again, I felt nauseous, and sat down. The same thing happened.

Both times, I "woke up" sweaty, and with a headache. I also didn't eat all day both of those days. My friends think it was from heatstroke, dehydration, or not eating. Any ideas?

Heatstroke seems like a likely possibility. Is there reason to believe it's from not eating or dehydration? Lying in the sun for a while and then going on a spinning ride isn't really a recipe for awesome times if you're dehydrated or have low blood sugar.

Heat stroke, dehydration, and seizure activity are all good possibilities.

Each symptom could fall into all 3 categories. I'd recommend seeing a neurologist to rule out epilepsy.

I would immediately make an appointment and go to your doctor/pediatrician. Definitely sounds like it could be heat stroke since you were in similar situations each time. I wouldn't go out to "play" anymore until they said I was okay.

Start taking care of yourself by eating. That most certainly factored in on these fainting episodes.

hi, snowy,

if you don't eat or drink anything all day, you will pass out. amusement rides and being in the sun all day are very taxing on the body. why are you not eating or drinking anything? these are sources of fuel for your body and without them you will pass out. please see your MD. i am concerned that you may have an eating disorder. please make sure you eat 3 meals very day and, always drink plenty of fluids, especially water, particularly on hot days.

eating disorders are serious. if you are blacking out your body is telling you something very important. if the black outs continue after you have improved your diet then ask your MD for a glucose tolerance test.

You might not necessarily have heat stroke but it sounds like the heat combined with lack of food and drink caused you to faint. It will happen again if you don't take care of yourself by eating and drinking whilst out in the heat. Personally I wouldn't be too concerned that it's something else unless it happens again when you are eating and drinking, as these cause people to be ill like that all the time.
