Hey Miss A,
These raised bumps are most likely perfectly normal and can usually be caused by one of 2 things: 1.) Your nipple bumps are just common, normal protuberances from the many oil glands located in the skin around the nipple and areola. These glands can swell with oil and take on a whitish appearance. What to do about them? Nothing. There is no way to make these glands smaller. However, if your areola becomes irritated, raw, or scaly, you develop a sore that won't heal, or you notice bloody discharge coming from your nipple, you should call your doctor. 2.) The nipple and areola (the pigmented area surrounding the nipple) contain specialized muscle fibers that respond to stimulation to make the nipple erect. Within the areola the Montgomery’s gland is contained. These glands may appear as tiny, raised bumps on the surface of the areola. These bumps are normal. The Montgomery’s gland helps lubricate the areola. ( http://www.coolnurse.com/breast_answers.htm ) I have a few around my breasts too, Miss A. If fact, I just received a full checkup by my gyno yesterday (which included a breast exam), and I'm sure she would have mentioned it if these bumps were abnormal. Next time you visit the doc, ask him/her about it, just to be on the safe side. In the meantime, don't worry about it, k? ~Alexiel
