I broke out in hives today and don't know what could have caused them. I am thinking it might have been something in my salad at lunch but not sure. I noticed them when I got home from shopping afterward. We had gone out and about with my sister and my Aunt today to the botanical gardens and then to Quiznos for lunch and I had the chicken taco salad which had chipolte mayo and guacamole on it. I had never had that before and I am thinking that is it. I am all broke out on my right thigh and a few spots on my left thigh. I took 2 rounds of benadryl and 1 round of zyrtec and so far no luck. I just remembered though I have some hydrocxyzine though so will be taking that shortly. Has anyone heard of someone just breaking out on one side of their body?

Is it possible you got were exposed to some poison ivy/poison oak? I got a really bad rash on both arms and my neck and face this week and the only thing I can figure is one of my cats might have gotten into some poison ivy and then rubbed it on me. I am taking oral prednisone now but still itchy. Hope you feel better soon.

It's a thought but I don't think so as the last time I got poison ivy my doctor told me that I would end up in the hospital because of it.
I am also wondering what shingles look like. I have had shingles once this year already but they were on the back of my neck and behind my ear so I couldn't see them just feel them to scratch them and be in pain. My leg hurts a bit now it is achy and itchy. I guess if it isn't better by Monday I will make an appointment to see the doctor or just see if the home health nurse can come see me for my weekly visit on Monday. Jan

jbug, are you pretty sure it is hives and not a rash? Sometimes you never find out the cause of the hives. I had them really bad for about 10 days a few years back and had to have cortisone shots to get them under control. I never found out what caused them. My daughter has got them a couple of times from going into Bath and Body Works. She is allergic to that store! I have another daughter who got them due to a drug allergy.
I think it is really good that you have the home nurse coming and she can check them out and give advice on how to get them under control. I hope they are not too itchy for you. Do you think you might be having a reaction to a medication you are taking? Sometimes certain viral infections can cause a rash on just one side of the body, but it is often in a strip on one side (dermatome pattern) rather than a whole side or area of a body. Contact dermatitis would be localized to wherever the contact had been on the body. Hope you feel better soon, jbug.

I went to the doctor today about my rash because my home health nurse said he thought the rash behind my ear looked like shingles. When I had them earlier this year that is where they were. The doctor looked at them and the rash on my legs and he though it was just dry skin. So he prescribed some corstione cream to rub on it twice a day. So thankfully it wasn't shingles.
