I used to have lower back problems before I had my girls. I would get bad muscle spasms. I starting exercising and my problem went away and didn't have problems for 13 yrs. Since I've had relationship problems, I stopped exercising regularly. I went for a walk with my girls and did some weight lifting and felt a strain in my back. Tried to get down on the floor and do the common back stretches and couldn't get up...took me 10 min to get up.

At the moment I can barely walk and I have no flexibility in my lower back. I know this is from not exercising. I can't stand up straight and kind of leaning to the side - can hardly walk. I feel like I'm 90 ATM. If I'm not better by Monday I'll go for Xrays. When I'm better I'm going to start back on my exercise routine - I'm disappointed in myself.

I'm really sorry you're having these back issues! I have a bad back also and I know exactly what you mean about feeling as though you're 90 years old some days. It's good that the exercises help you (but I know it's hard to keep doing them!) and I hope that this current problem eases very soon and you can get back to doing them. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!
Thanks for this!

Thanks sundog. When it first started hurting, I tried to do the traditional back stretches but could barely do them. I laid on the floor with my feet on the sofa and an ice pack. I don't know whether to just rest or try to stretch it out. When this goes away, I'm going to get back on a regular exercise routine....this stinks. Amazing how severe pain ruins everything.

Do you have any anti-inflammatory meds? I take something when I get a really bad spasm and I can't move properly. It usually helps a bit. I hope you find some relief soon!
Thanks for this!

My husband has Naproxen for his own pain issues, so I took one of those right away. I've taken them before so I know it's okay to take his. I'm feeling a little better ATM - I did this back stretch where you lay on the floor with the legs against a wall...it helped a little. Thank you for your concern.

I have had bad back problems on/off for many years. I stretch every day to try to prevent them from recurring. When they do flare up, anti-inflammatories, heat, and ice are the remedies for me. Ice is a natural pain killer. And the heat loosens things up so I can do the stretching. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!
Thanks for this!

Hey Lynn. Got the same lower back issue. I have 2 ruptured discs in my lower back. Sometimes I have to slide up the wall to stand up. I was scared the first time it happened. Called EMS and was prescribed a pain reliever. Hydrocodone because I cannot take ibprophen. When you start exercizing easy does it.
Thanks for this!

Thanks guys - unfortunately I'm not any better today, so I think I'll go to the clinic and then get some current Xrays done to make sure there isn't any structural things wrong. I'll keep you updated.

Argh! Pain hurts. Best wishes for nothing serious and a speedy recovery!

Just curious: how did Bella react to your being floored?

Thank you for your concern and good wishes ((sundog)). I decided to go tomorrow to my family doctor and then go for Xrays. I just want to make sure there's nothing like a disc problem - don't want to injure myself further with exercise. If I get the all clear from the Xrays, I'm determined to make my back and whole body stronger again. I've slacked off the last couple years and this is a wake up call for me.

Thanks Rohag. Lol Bella looked very worried about me. She hasn't been getting as much attention from me since yesterday. I can't bend down to pet her unless she hops on the sofa.

It's a creepy feeling not being able to get up by yourself. My oldest kept saying "let me help you Mom" and I kept insisting to do it myself lol. I didn't like feeling helpless so it was very humbling. I'm determined to get stronger to avoid this from happening again.

I know what you mean ((NF)) - I go through stages where I exercise and do really good, then I stop. I was so proud I went 13 yrs without problems. I don't blame my body for reacting this way. I been thinking lately that I want to start exercising again. I hope this time I'll stick to it, so I don't have to start at square one. I feel so much better when my body is strong.
