I was diagnosed recently and put on a slow release med.

I have been on it four days and have totally lost any appeal for food. I am just not hungry ! I can do with losing weight so am not really bothered about it I just wondered if this was common.

The med is Glucophage I am on 2000 mg once a day.

Glucophage/metformin definitely causes the runs! It will slow down and then go away within a couple weeks though.

I'm a little concerned about the 2000 mg once a day...generally it should be taken twice a day because it works for about 12 hours. The top dose is 1000 mg TWICE a day, totaling 2000 mg a day. Also...were you started at this dose Tishie? Like almost any other med out there, the dose should be tapered up or down...with this med its usually 500 twice a day, then 1000 twice a day after a careful evaluation of blood sugar readings, and often a repeat a1C is involved.

Metformin and glucophage are the same medication...metformin is the generic name.

The Glucophage or Metformin(generic Glucophage) can make you not want to eat. It is important that you do though. Taking it and not eating can severly drop your sugar level. If it doesn't go way in a weeks time I would tell my doctor. Did you have this with metformin since they are the same drug?

I've been on theses for 11 years and had the not wanting to eat, runs, upset stomach all that stuff. As far as the runs, the more carbs you have usually the worse it gets. Try to add extra protein in your diet. The more protein you can get the better you can fee.
