Trying not to freak out, but I found a lump...a pretty big one... on the outside of my breast under the armpit. It's tender. I have a appointment tomorrow afternoon to get it checked, but in the meantime I am pretty concerned.

Anybody else experience something like this??

((jilliebeanmn)) Try not to worry and yes I've had this. It was an enlarged lymph node but you're wise in getting it checked out. Sometimes it can be an irritated sweat gland also from deodrants and shaving. I had an ultrasound done and it was an enlarged lymph node. If this wasn't there a month ago, that's mpost likely what it is. Keep us posted and I pray that's all it is.

It's so scary isn't it? I haven't had this specifically, but I do wonder why all of a sudden we are frightened "to death" especially when we (well, I know I don't) think about such things normally, and don't fear them in the future.

So glad you were able to get a quick appointment! Hopefully, it's just a swollen node.

I forgot to mention that cancerous breast lumps usually aren't painful. If your lump is painful, this most likely is an infected sweat gland or a lymph node - I've had both and they're painful.

Yeah, it's pretty rare for a cancerous breast lump to be painful.

Thank you guys, you are making me feel better. I am wondering if I should just give it some time and see if it resolves itself or if I should keep my appointment this afternoon.

I think you should keep the appoint. for sure, just so you can feel reassured by the doctor. Always better to be safe and get it checked out. Good luck and let us know what your doctor says.

I had a lump appear no my throat one year. It grew over the course of a month. It turned out to be a cyst on my thyroid. The doc did an FNA (fine needle aspiration) on it to get a sample for testing. It's still there years later but it doesn't cause any problem.

Just to say, there are things that go bump but aren't nessecarily scary. :-)

Dr says it feels like a swollen lymph node. Told me to give it a couple weeks and if it was still there to let her know. So...hopefully it will just go away in that time. Thanks for the feedback and support. There is a long history of breast cancer in my family and it scares the hell out of me when I find something like this.

That's great news ((jilliebeanmn)) and it's good to keep an eye on it. I had the same thing and it lingered for a couple months, so my doctor wanted to have an ultrasound - that verified it was okay.

If you can, stop wearing deoderant for a few weeks. With there being a history of breast cancer, I can certainly understand why you're scared. I was scared before to. Do you have to have mammograms every year? I'm happy she doesn't think it's a breast lump.

I had exactly the same situation about a month ago. Very large lump was right on the margin between my breast and underarm. Very long history of breast cancer in the family. Dr appointment one day after discovery of lump, mammo and ultrasound one week later (due to most recent family history of very young Aunt having a very aggressive form of BC, and dying within a year). The lump was completely gone by the time I got the diagnostic tests...only a week. They couldn't see anything at all out of the ordinary.
