In January, I have to go to the ear nose and throat doctor because of recurring, chronic sinus trouble. I went in in November, but he wanted to stick a tube up my nose to examine my sinuses.

I am deathly scared of anything invasive other than a shot or blood test.

I panicked and walked out.

Now I have to go back.

I told them to go slow this time. To explain why they ahve to do this and what's involved.

Maybe this is more appropriate in the phobia section.

I had a horrible doctor dream last night (see doctor dream, terrible in Sleep Issues) It was probably because of my anxiety.

Hi, I had this done not too long ago. It went fine, really. I was pretty nervous about it. They spray a numbing solution so you don't really feel much of anything at all. And it was really quick since they probably already know what they are looking for, and there isn't that much there to examine.

Taking care of your health is a really good thing to do for yourself!

I hope they can help you feel safe with reassurance and talking with you to distract you (which works for me, anyway).

Hi, billi_lelli!

I too had this done and it really wasn't any big deal. I had had sinus problems all my life. And the doctor took some kind of x-ray and said he'd have to operate to help me. I trusted him and had the procedure done in his office, with an anesthetist. This was twenty years ago. Ever since then I've breathed much, much better. It really was a huge improvement. He was right to suggest the operation. Since it was in his office it was out-patient and not a problem. Of course, check out the doctor and his/her reputation. If you're working with a reputable physician you ought to be able to trust what he/she says. I've had a number of different procedures with different doctors. Most of them have worked out fine. And if you're scared, tell the doctor and talk with him/her about it. They do understand. They will work with you. They will help you out. Take care!

I have a phobia of when I go to the eye doctor, I can't do the eye pressure test. I can do the puff test, but I'm really not able to do the pressure machine. I think it scares me that I'm afraid that I'll jerk and jab myself in the eye and cause serious damage or something....

So, you're not alone!! I know the fear, too!!!
