Have you been to the dentist recently? When our enamel isn't very strong, stains can better affix themselves to your teeth. Thus, it's always good to see your dentist at least once a year.

If you can cut out some of the caffeine/sugars/colas then that will also help. Not only those substances cause discoloration of teeth either.

Eat a lot of strawberries. Raw. The pectin whitens the teeth naturally. At least that's what I've always heard and seen for people.

Hi,
you need to be carefull with the baking soda, because it can scratch your teeth if you use it too much. If you go to the dentist, they can give you trays that you can fill with the whitening gel. There's also this treatment called Zoom and that's done in the office.

even toothpaste can be abrasive! brushing with just water and using Listerine mouth wash helps for "healthy" teeth, I don't know if anything really will change the color of your teeth, except expensive dental care, Zoom, trays, etc. And some of the dental treatment (trays you use with gels) won't whiten any fillings.

I used to work for a dentist.

Good luck, and if you find anything that really works, let all of us know too!

Hydrogen Peroxide will do the same thing as Whitening Strips. One problem, whitening teeth can damage the enamel and gums. Brushing three time daily should keep your teeth in good shape.

Poll: How many times a day do you brush?
Do you floss daily?

People with illnesses often let these things go undone.

Try using a toothpaste like Sensodyne that won't make your teeth sensitive like the whitening gels (even from dentists) and such can. I think baking soda works ok if you don't brush with it, but allow the chemical reaction to work on it's own.

Ferretguy is right about flossing. Lack of flossing is a huge contributor to heart disease I think (or something like that ...because of the bacteria... which is why if you have MVP having your teeth cleaned can be a problem.)

Dont listen to any of these old stupid remedies that people say. If you are considering to get a teeth whitening done then you have to see a Dentist or a Dental Hygienist. Not everyone is a good candidate for teeth whitening. You need a professional opinion coz you don't want to end up like those guys that regret getting it done at those mall kiosks. Get it done professionally if you want it to last for at least a year. Bleaching gel should not be in contact with your oral tissue. That's what people don't understand. It is meant to whiten your teeth not your gums. This page has answered questions about whitening. Teeth Whitening There is also a video from an investigation of ABC news that shows how mall kiosks dont know nothing about teeth whitening and how they are not allowed to touch your face
Good luck

I think our obsession with white teeth has gone overboard. Before whiteners came along, I had a friend who desperately wanted white teeth. She brushed her teeth with Pearl Drops so often, she brushed off most of her enamel. This not only made her teeth look even worse, she developed serious dental problems.

IMO, really bright white teeth look silly to me, unless it's a small child with new teeth. it looks very unnatural on an older face with older teeth.
Thanks for this!

everyone has a different hue in the color of their teeth. perhaps your have a yellowish cast or grey. no amount of anything will change that. i'm thinking this is your situation. i agree with kathym. too much emphasis on teeth whitening. it's a money maker for the most part. will whiten your teeth perhaps but only up to the hue cast of your teeth. hope this helps.

I used to have a friend at the local roller rink who had his teeth whitened. I was skating at the far end of the rink one night when he walked in through the door At the time, the lights were very dim....all I could see were his teeth! They almost glowed in the dark.

They were very, um, "perfect," but I had the hardest time trying to keep from laughing.
