i know this sounds horrible but i think my body does not seem capable of processing mucous properly! i have a problem where by i can not blow my nose very easily, have a permanent stream of mucous dripping down my throat. every few days i spend 20 minutes coughing, retching and vomiting but it is not like when i am ill from a bug, it is made up mainly of bubbly clear/white mucous. when i have a cold it is even worse, like today, it is only lunchtime and i have vomited three times already, am really struggling to breathe as when i try through my nose it sends gunk into my lungs and i cough more! i know i am asthmatic and have allergies but i am soo careful that no triggers enter my home and i did not go out yesterday at all.
does anyone else have this difficulty handelling their gunk too?

I have the post-nasal drip as well. It is a pain in the *** but not much I can do about it. Have you seen a ear, nose, and throat specialist yet? I don't have ashtma so I am not sure how that works when you have a cold...but if you have an inhaler make sure you have it on hand at all times.

thanks skully, i have all 3 inhalors with me all the time as a matter of course, i have not been referred to an ent specialist my doc is **** he never referrs anyone for anything as it costs him money so much for the NHS!! sorry to hear you too have the drip, it is **** and you are right there is nothing either of us can do to stop it though i have found beechams day and night tablets do dry it up for a little while when you have a cold.... unfortunately i can not use them whilst i am on my present inhalors as they can increase the chances of having an asthma attack!!

Have you tried nasal sprays to clear your passage ways? I do at times and I find it helpful.

I've never been to one, but maybe see if you can find an "ears, nose and throat specialist"? They do exist, maybe they'd be able to help if this has been a long standing problem for you.

Just a thought - you don't have a deviated septum do you? That would explain why the gunk can't drain and why you can't blow your nose properly.

Otolarynogolgy is the speciality that deals with the ear, nose, and throat (an ENT). If that is of any help. Check with your primary doctor for a referral (at least in the US, not sure about how it works in the UK)

thanks all for your sugestions, Am seing my doctor on wednesday will ask him again to refer me... he probably won't as in the uk it costs him if he does! I have tried every nasal spray in the chemists none of them do any good, Olbas oil does help dry it up at night, but at the moment i have a stomping cold/flu thing going on too which is not helping at all!!
