I tripped last Sat. in my apartment, and fell onto my pedal harp knocking it over. I landed, seated, on one of the really sharp metal pedals that stick out of the base. I didn't go to the hospital immediately for stiches because I didn't think it was that bad, it wasn't bleeding a lot, and it wasn't particularly sore. Big mistake. By Wed. it was really sore and oozing gunk, so I went to the hospital. They cleaned it dressed it, and put me on oral antibiotics, and told me to come back Thurs. I went back Thurs, they cleaned and dressed it again, and decided I needed IV antibiotics, which they gave me, and told me to come back Fri. I went back Fri. got it looked at again and got more antibiotics. Fri. night they said they'd arrange for home healthcare to come in and give my antibiotics at home. Well sat was too soon to set that up, so I had to go back to the hospital again. Sun, the home health care nurse came and hooked me up to an IV pump that I have to wear in a pouch around my waist. Getting dressed is incredibly awkward, sleeping is hard, and bathing is a real adventure. I have to sit in salt water baths twice a day. This is going to go on until Wed. The really annoying part is the home health care nurse can only come between 10:30 and 11:00, which means I have to be in late to work, where I'm still on probation.

Plus I'm really scared about the antibiotics not working and the infection getting worse, which would be really scary.

I'm just hoping the infection clears up and it heals.

sympathy & hugs would be appreciated.

(((((splitimage)))) - my goodness I'm so sorry you have this infection - it sounds very serious. When you sit in the salt water - is this in your bath tub? Make sure the bath is very clean and I also recommend washing your lower half 1st in the shower, to stop bacteria from the lower half getting in the water. Are they giving you a silver nitrate dressing?

I know it's scary when bacteria strikes - when my daughter was 5 she's got a very minor scrape on our wood floor. I disinfected it and assumed it would be fine. A week later I was helping her pull up her pants and she cried out in pain. I immediately made an appt. with her pediatrician and he said it was cellulitis on her knee. He said it I hadn't brought her in, it would have turned into a deadly situation or loss of her leg.

If you develop a fever or increased pain, make sure you go to the ER. I pray you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone.

Lynn P - Yup I'm sitting in my bathtub and I've been scrubbing the heck out of it.

The home health care nurse came and took my IV out today. I'm very relieved about that, as the vein in my left hand had collapsed so she had moved the needle to my right forearm, and that vein was starting to hurt.

Went back to the hospital tonight to get my wound checked. The Dr. put me on another course of oral antibiotics for 7 days. It's better than being on the IV, except this antibiotic really upsets my stomache. And I'm to continue to with the salt water baths twice a day for the forseeable future, and I'm to follow up with my family Dr. in a week.

Fortunately it seems to be healing. It's still oozing a bit of gunk, but considerably less than even 3 days ago.

(((((splitimage))))),

Isn't it interesting how just a little accident can cause such a serious situation.....ugh.

I had a similar situation. I am not sure what caused it, but seemed to remember climbing over the wooden doggie gate & feeling like I got a splinter in the back of my right leg just where it attaches to my body. Never felt pain or anything but one way weeks later, I noticed a huge hole in the back of my hip area on that same leg. I ended up going into the urgent care at the time rather than the ER. They were so worried that the infection had gone into the joint. I got stuck on the IV antibiotics immediately...had to go back to the urgent care every 2 days for over a week. To this day, I still have a huge dent in my skin where that stupid sore was.

It's hard having sores in places we can't see. Just goes to show, how easy it is to ignore things that we can't see.

Glad you are mending well....hope it keeps mending well & you get all better.

Hope you can fix your harp too......give it a bandage & a splint????
