i have been sick for almost three weeks now with diarrhea. I went to the doctor last week and they said it was probably a virus and all I could do was to wait for it to go away. I have another appointment tomorrow morning, but I am tired of waiting to get well.

I feel sick in the morning and don't have an appetite. I feel nausous and then have diarrhea. By the evening i am usually feeling a little better and am hungry again. I hate this. It is totally wringing me out. I hate being sick and am such a cranky patient.

(((googley))) - sorry to hear you're sick. Diarrhea can really be difficult. My oldest daughter has had it for 3 days. Try eating yogurt regularly and it would be good to take the supplements(acidolpholis) as well. This will replace the friendly bacteria in your intenstines. Try eating a banana in the morning. Fresh ginger root tea with a green tea bad in soothing - cut a 1 inch piece and slice it - boils for 5 min. I hope you feel better soon.

googley, keep going back to the doctor and telling them that you aren't better.
I had to do that a few years ago when they wanted to discount my diarrhea as 'functional' (meaning they had no idea why). When I went back they looked at it more closely and found out why. So I think they sometimes say it's nothing as a first response, then see if we come back if it doesn't resolve itself.

When I was having chronic pancreatitis (I didn't know then what it was) the first doctor I saw, when I was very dehydrated and could barely stand, said it was the flu (because the patient before me had the flu, he said). He reluctantly offered to send me to the GI doc, and I chose to do that and it was the right thing to do. I was sick.

So, keep going back. I hope you feel much better soon!

I'm really sorry - make sure that you're keeping hydrated. Gatorade is good for that when you're sick.

Have you tired Immodium?

Hope the Dr. is able to help this time.

Thank you all for your support. I went to the doctor today and they took blood and stool samples. I should have the results by next week. They didn't really seem to have any idea what it was. They threw out IBS or a stress response as a possibility. I really don't like those answers. They gave me some meds for the nausea. Hopefully they will help.

When I went in last time they said not to use immodium because they thought it might be a virus and that would make it worse.

They said I should come back in next Wednesday to get all of the results. I will have to see what they say then.

I don't think so. I've talked to my celiac support people and they said this has gone on too long to be a gluten reaction. There is always a possibility that I have developed some other complication from it.

I just want to feel better.

UGH ~ No fun at all!

I hope that you get answers soon, and better yet, relief!

I was in the same spot as you a while ago, my diarrhea lasted for more than 1-2 months. The docs did all sorts of tests: stool samples, urine, and blood. No positive results with any of them. What a waste of time! But, I did think ahead to put myself on the waiting list for a GI doctor.

I am now 2 weeks away from finally seeing the GI doc ~ it's been 5 months of waiting. I am real anxious for some freaking answers for why.

Gentle hugs to you ~ keep up on the fluids, like Gatorade to replenish your body.

having that problem is so physically exhausting. how's your stress level lately (aside from that caused by the diarrhea)? a few years ago, i went out for Thai food with friends and came down with diarrhea that would not stop for days. my MD put me on probiotics and they helped a lot. are you keeping a diary of what you're eating and drinking? please re-hydrate often as diarrhea can dehydrate you. i hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for this!
