I had to be readmitted to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock due to the fact my incision had opened up had an abscess. Dr. B just went in cleaned it out determined there is no infection and I had to stay over the weekend. I was admitted Thursday night, surgery Friday, then recoup the weekend.

The food service though didn't seem to know what gluten free was. My first tray was major gluten overload so I gave my tray to my mom. It took my nurse calling them about 3x's and then when my doctor came in we told him what happened and the fact it took them to almost 10:00 to finally get my tray to me.

I don't know if it was a combo of my nurse and doctor getting on to them because all but the last meal was good.

So those of us with very specialized diets need to make sure the dietitian knows about it.

Yikes Jan!

I'm sorry that your incision opened and there was an abscess. I hope it wasn't very painful. What an experience!

Gentle hugs sent your way. Scary that the dietitian took so long to get your diet right! Sheeesh...

Hope that you start to feel better soon. Take care!

sorry you had to be readmitted, seems hospitals the world over do not get the free from diets, i was in hospital 7 weeks for observation a few years ago and even at the end they still hadn't got it, i lost 2 stone and ended up getting visitors to go out and buy me food to keep in the ward staff fridge!
hope you are feeling better, good luck for a speedy recovery xx

Hi Jbug,
I'm sorry you needed to go back into the hospital. That really sucks.
For all that hospitals are medical facilities, they like many doctors are unaware of what gluten free means. I have heard a number of stories of people who have had trouble with gluten free in hospitals. Some have had to go as far as having family bring food in for them to make sure it is gluten free. I'm glad your doctor and nurse were able to get you what you needed.
