I am having an allergic reaction to something. I am itching all over.

I don't know what caused the reaction, the only thing I can think of is maybe the margarine I put on my waffle this morning.

I normally have my own container of margarine so there is no cross-contamination because of me being gluten free. But ran out of mine and mom's hasn't been to the store yet.

That is the only thing I can think of that would be doing this. I don't want to continue take benadryl so it doesn't quit working. I don't know if this would happen but don't want to run the risk.

So any input would be appreciated.

Jan

Do you need to call your doctor? I would stick with benadryl I don't think it is something you can build a tolerance to. Do any of the anti itch creams work? Would an oatmeal bath help calm it down for a while? I have allergies/intolerance too... they are a pain. I don't get itchy though. My mom does and I can't remember her tricks.

I can't take a bath due to the fact my incision on my belly is still open.

I just called my doctor and am waiting for them to call me back.

I will ask my home health nurse what she recommends when she gets here.

I don't know if the anti itch cream would work as I am itching all over my body.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I noticed in your other post you are recovering from surgery, maybe it's not the food, are you taking meds? Do you have an epi pen just in case, or just the benadryl? I don't use margarine or butter because the salt and fat combo makes me insanely hungry, I can't even keep them in the house. I would get the bedsores checked, I don't know why you had the tummy tuck, but if you have blood sugar issues, you know wound healing is an issue. But bedsores are especially troublesome, and I am surprised you would be discharged without special instructions for such a serious problem. Please be careful.

I'm relieved a nurse is coming!

You'd think we'd learn to not eat things that react to us! Wonder why we think we can get away with it, just once, just a little?

Feel better soon.

You might consider drinking lots of water to help dilute the effects in your cells.... if you realize something like this quickly, and you can take pepto bismol then do so... it will coat the stomach and help the body not absorb so much.

having just had an operation could imbalance your body enough to set off an allergy you never had before

itchy all over... some meds can cause this, some cause big red itchy patches or small flaky itchy patches. allergies to scents, perfumes, soaps or washing detergents could cause itching, also some talc and dust mites can too! i am fine with Asda talc but Boots talc feels like i am sitting on a pile of pins, really itchy prickly
you could : try drinking camomile tea it is a soother.
try a mild steroid cream like betnovate but use sparingly,
try eurax cream- this stops itching but is not a steroid as far as i know
check your temperature, often allergies raise it a little causing itchyness, if so take paracetamol which will reduce temp and itchyness.
if it is the margarine you ate, it should go in a couple of days after you stop eating it.
