I pulled or tore my hamstring at yoga. Maybe they are the same thing, I don't know. What I do know is that it isn't getting better. Even just normal walking hurts like hell. It feels like a long cord all the way from my groin area down to midcalf is being pulled/ripped slowly out of my leg.

Does anyone have any tips or know ways to heal this injury. I'm trying to go easy in yoga now but it doesn't seem to be getting better. After a yoga session it hurts worse again the next day. I don't want to stop my practice as I really need it.

Any ideas appreciated,
Much love, Anika

Unfortunately, and I know this is not what you want to hear, but resting a torn muscle or ligaments are the best medicine. Adding warm moist heat, so for this case being such a large area, bath soaks or a low heating pad will help stimulate blow flow to the torn/over strained area will help as well, and can be followed by ice to help the stimulation. 10 minute increments of each at a time a couple times a day or when you can. It sounds like there are more muscles involved than just a hamstring if it is going in to the groin and down into the calf. Regardless, for a strained muscle(s) the suggestion is/are still the same.

Take the time to heal. Do other exercises that do not involve stretching the leg for now. Take care of yourself and don't over do it so it has a chance to mend. Unfortunately, it will take time. Hang in there and sending wishes for a speedy recovery!

Yep, Fresia is absolutely right. Rest and no stretching of that muscle group is needed for recovery. If you don't take care of it now, it will only get worse and be more painful. Please take good care of yourself!

Thank you so much for all that info! I guess I will do just that and rest. I really think I did a number on it. Again thank you for laying out the steps to follow. I really appreciate it. Now I'm off to run a hot bath and ice packs. I will do my best to be patient.
