Has anyone had the gastric bypass surgery? Could you please share your story? I would like to hear about the surgery and what you went through before and after. Thanks!

Weight loss surgery works very well for some and not as well. Or it could a completely wrong choice for others.

My husband had gastric bypass 2 years ago and he lost about 100 pounds. He is no longer diabetic, doesn't take nearly as much medicine as before the surgery. All great.

His high blood pressure is well controlled with one medication.

But if after about the first year you haven't develped better lifestlye habits, such as getting active and staying away from the portion sizes that are bad for you, you may relapse.

The surgery is just a tool. To keep the 'new you', you also need to learn to rethink and change your previous habits.

There are 4 types of surgery, the 2 most known are the lap band and the gastric bypass. I don't recall the other 2, but one of those less common known has a bad side effect of having extremely fowl smelling bowel movements and isn't popular. The gastric bypass is the so called gold standard of the different types of surgery. The most often sucessful long term.

If you want to ask a spouse of someone who has had weight loss surgery, I'll be happy to let you know what I have done to support hubby. In the end, it is his job to choose what he puts in is mouth and right now he is gaining weight.
