Does any one know ? Sounds like the sciatic nerve is impinged in your lumbar spine. Try a physical therapist for relief?

Just was wondering, have any of the docs did tests for circulation and/or neuropathy?
My mom is diabetic, has high blood pressure, has peripheal vascular disease and a touch of arthritis in her one knee.
She suffers with leg and back pain, goes for PT but is now having a MRA to detect if there is thickening of the arterial walls causing inadequate circulation, it has been detected in one foot by a test her podiatrist did, which lead us to have her seen by cardiologist so he referred us to a vascular specialist, Fri. so we'll see.
Has any of your docs tested for any circulatory related problems? May not be a bad idea, just to rule out any PVD, which often can be improved with stent(s) or angioplasty.
I wish you lots of luck with this, and for relief soon.
Take care,
DE

Sounds like what I get Sometimes - a pinched nerve (which is what my physician says what you are discribing numbing like leg asleep but pain on moving) . There is no test for it. I get pinched nerves in my lower back sometimes to the point where I can hardly move so I have to use my crutches for a week or two. Pinched nerves can happen from sitting the wrong way for extended periods of time - like sitting at a comupter all day on a wooded chair with very little back support and cushons or turning part of the body too fast and in a direction you wouldnt normally move in. I also get pinched nerves from sleeping in odd positions and or on a mattress that is too hard or firm for my back. I have managed to cut down on the pinched nerves by taking walking around breaks when I have to be sitting for any huge legnth of time, sleep on an air mattress instead of an innerspring mattress. When I do have a pinched nerve 2 Tylenol ( extra strength) every four hours takes the pain away.

How long did you go to physical therapy? A PT often can't just pop bones back in off the nerves, especially if it's been long term.. it takes retraining the ligaments, muscles. Often ins won't pay for a chiropractor, but will for physical therapists. What do you do differently at night when you sleep that the pain goes away?
