So tomorrow I see the cardiologist I was referred to, to get the results of all my tests. I'm not too worried about it, because I'm 90% certain that the chest pains I've been getting are stress related, but I'm still a little anxious about what she's going to say the tests show, and what she's going to say about my meds. Basically I'm afraid that all my years of very serious heavy drinking have somehow damaged my heart, and it's showing up now.

Best wishes for your appointment. Last year I had a bunch of heart tests and it was pretty freaky, espcially since I'm adopted and don't know my medical history. I did some hard partying in my day as well. Good or not so good, knowing is better than not.

Best of luck to you. I had the same fears when I went to the Cardio last year. I also had a history of HEAVY drinking, but i had quit years before. I still thought that my drinking had caught up with me, so i expected the worse since my Dad had died from heart problems. I also had a history of extreme stress/anxiety so I figured I had one foot in the grave.
![]() When I went, the doc scheduled me for a heart catheterization, and THAT really did it -- I KNEW I'd had it then! LOL After i got the results of that, I was absolutely FLOORED -- everything was FINE! Absolutely nothing wrong at all! He did the heart cath cause I had a mitral valve prolapse, and he wanted to look at the valve closer, but it's working just fine. So we worry ourselves SICK for nothing 99% of the time. I'll bet yours will be just fine too! So don't project problems when there isn't any. God bless and good luck! Hugs, Lee |

Thanks everyone. Well the good news is my heart is fine. The echocardiogram showed no abnormalities, and the holter monitor showed that although my heart is racing, everything is regular. The Dr. thinks the tachycardia is a result of my meds, but says if my meds are working that it's not worth changing them. She said she might suggest beta blockers, but that my blood pressure is too low, and I'd be fainting all the time.
She agreed with me that the chest pain was probably stress and nothing to worry about phew. The only bad news is she says my cholesteroal level is really high and since I can't control what I eat given that I'm in the sober living place and meals are included, then she wants me on cholesterol medication - I'm not keen on that, but I'll think about it. splitimage |
