I sometimes have these episodes where I'll be eating dinner and then start to feel kind of feverish and break out in a cold sweat (I mean literally sweating). After I'm finished eating I take my temperature and it has climbed up to 99.5 or higher and it really freaks me out. My throat also feels tight and nervous at times. These episodes last a few weeks and then I feel great again - only to be hit with them again a month or two later. Does any of this ring any bells with anyone?.

Your throat doesn't get a burning sensation or anything? You don't 'burp' up any acidy type stuff or get heartburn? There's nothing other than the very slight temperature elevation and tight throat?

That doesn't sound like GERD to me, but I'm probably wrong. Maybe others can offer more info for you. Take care. Hugs, Lee

Hmmm. I don't think so, but I recommend you check in with your doctor and tell him/her about your symptoms.

I agree with the other members...nothing to be alarmed about...good idea to let the doctor have a look-see. Hugs

No, that doesn't sound like GERD to me. Like the others, I do recommend seeing a doctor just in case ~ to help ease your anxiety. A couple of Q's the doc will probably ask are as follows:

Does it occur when you're eating certain types of food? Like, spicy or acidic foods? Does the sensation hit after you've been eating for a while (and are probably full), or does it occur at various times of the meal?

Best wishes sent your way....

It sounds like gustatory hyperhidrosis (sweating):

Probably a good idea asking a doc.

You eat a lot of MSG?

I just wanted to say thank you for all the replies. Much appreciated!.

To Perna: Thanks for the info on gustatory hyperhydrosis. Very interesting (kind of scary too). I don't know what it is but it always seems like there's some new and scary thing going on. I can't remember if I've ever had this before but I probably have.

Shezbut: It occurs only when I eat hot foods (not sure about spicy). I had hot soup yesterday and felt kind of hot/cold sweaty and didn't feel so good. Today the food was not as hot (BBQ chicken and potatoes and I didn't have the same problem.

Leed: Yes, my throat feels irritated sometimes I tend to reflux food after I've eaten (especially after a big meal). I get heartburn and all the other stuff too. Not fun. I had been diagnose with GERD, Gastritis, IBS and Lactose Intolerance a long time ago. I took Prevacid. They also did an endoscopy and colonoscopy on me and removed some benign polyps. I'm almost 50 and have had all kinds of stomach issues since I was a teen. I had the barium swallow when I was younger (yuk!). Not fun.

Thanks again to everyone and anyone I missed here for your replies, hugs, etc. It's very nice to hear from other people - especially when you feel scared and alone.

- Regards, BlueJay
