Anyone taking Depakote (divalproex) and having gastro problems? I cannot get my system to calm down. I am especially having problems with healthy foods. Junk foods? Except for soda and deep fried stuff, no problem. Looks like I am going to have another meal of white rice.

Is anyone else taking Depakote? If so, are you having side-effects?

I had problems with the IBS when I took Depakote, though no longer on it. It was not easy to manage and the gastroenterologist put me on something prescription to help because nothing I did with my diet seemed to help, short of stopping the med. Perhaps contacting your physician to let them know what is going on would help out and perhaps find some relief. I hope you find some soon.

Oh boy, was on this years ago after a failed lithium trial...
I stayed so nauseated, never got up to the therapeutic level.

Years later tried lamictal, works well, taken it since 2000.

Hope you feel better soon with the IBS & mood.

I was on Depakote, and seemed to do pretty well at first, but it drove my WBC levels down. I do have GERD, but continue to take Protonix every day to keep my symptoms at bay.

Very best wishes to you!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I see my primary MD tomorrow for an annual physical and will raise problems with this med. I continue to have GI problems and motivation problems. I really want to stop takine generic Depakote but my neurologist wants me on it because my tolerance of other meds is even worse.
