For the last few days I've had a sore throat, mild sinus and a mild cough. Today I woke up with lower left rib pain and thought it might be indigestion. Later in the afternoon started feeling worse and then it dawned on me it could be pneumonia, because I had this last year and remember that pain. I went to a clinic that recently changed ownership - went there because they have an Xray place but they aren't there anymore either. The doctor said he could hear something and I was sent to get Xrays at a different place and bring them back.

He's not a radiologist and they will be sent back later to be read by one. He looked at them and thinks I have Pleurisy - where the outer lining around the lung gets inflamed and this causes the pain. He said I didn't need antibiotics and to take ibuprofen. I haven't heard this term in a long time and at 1st was puzzled. I think I'll make an appt tomorrow to my regular family doctor because I don't think this doctor was completely reliable - he forgot to check my throat. I don't know if this is from my pneumonia last year or what's the reason I have this. I don't smoke BTW but was exposed to a lot of 2nd hand smoke as a child.

I always get a heightened sense of awareness with my pneumonia, like I just KNOW that if I don't take care of this as a first priority, soon nothing else will matter. Plus the middle of my chest hurts to breathe and makes the noise known as railes. You should NOT make noise when you breathe. My xrays are often misread, Idk why. I don't like having to go back a 2nd day to get the meds they should have written the first day, by then I am sicker and another bus trip doesn't help. Chicken wedding soup and oranges for you!!

I've had Pleurisy before and it is extremely PAINFUL. Every breath I took was a new experience in PAIN. My gosh it was awful. To help, I wrapped myself in an ace bandage, and that made it a little better.

My doctor DID put me on antibiotics, and that helped it go away quite quickly, but boy was it painful -- I know I said that before, but good grief I can't say it enough! LOL

I hope you don't have it. But i hope you don't have pneumonia either! Take good care of yourself, and God bless. Hugs, Lee

Thank you ((Hankster)) and ((Leed)). I went to my family doctor this morning - I've been going to her for 20 yrs and she's very good. When I was getting ready, I started coughing with no warning and it was non stop.....to the point where I could hardly take a breath. It also made me gag twice and luckily I didn't. With my pneumonia experience, I've never coughed that hard.

My doctor listened to my breathing and she could hear sounds. She put me on 10 days antibiotics and nose spray for the sinus. It makes sense to me if someone has sounds deep in the lung.....they should be on antibiotics. I didn't trust the doctor yesterday. I called the Xray clinic to make sure they send my doctor a copy of the report. The clinic yesterday gave them back to the Xray place. I'll be interested to see if that radiologist agrees its pleurisy and I'll let you know when I find out. I'm sorry you had this Leed and went through so much pain.
